Moms making baby food... storage/freezing containers??
DS is almost 3 1/2 months and I've been starting to research making our own baby purees. I have some books from the library and of course the pictures show these beautiful Martha Stewart like glass jars and perfect shaped frozen cubes...
Please share your favorite storage/freezing/serving containers/ice cube trays/jars.... glass, plastic, silicone?
Some books say use ice cube trays with a lid and some say it's not necessary since you'd be putting them in bags after frozen.
Also for fun add you DC's first solid (aside from store bought cereals).

I have the kidco trays and I pop them out once they are frozen and store them in gallon freezer bags.
Works great!
PS-I find it hard with the kidco trays to get the cubes to pop out. I flip them over and run cool water on them for a second and then they pop right out!

Re: Moms making baby food... storage/freezing containers??
I agree with Jenn that the Kidco trays are difficult when popping the frozen food out of them. I don't use the gallon baggies, I use the individual snack bags and put as many cubes as needed in each one.
I also use the Gerber plastic baby food containers that a friend collects for me.
I have also used the baby food jars even though people recommend not using them, because glass is not meant to be frozen. I find this the easiest though. The night before I decide what DS is going to eat - I put in the refridgerator. It usually is not defrosted, so instead of using the mircowave (which I try to stay away from), I place the jar in the bottle warmer.
Hope this helps.

Same here.
The first food I believe was apple or pear. I don't remember.

I could make more then just a few tray fulls throughout the week because once the food was frozen, I would puree up something else to freeze.
ETA: First fresh food was banana with blueberries. (he had already tried jarred bananas)

I'm a fan of glass! I'll have to look into getting a bottle warmer. One of the books I'm reading suggested freezing in glass jars when DC gets older and needs larger portions than the cubes. I think if you leave enough space for expansion, glass is okay to freeze. And I guess being careful not to heat while frozen and not thawed.
Thanks everyone!

Re: Moms making baby food... storage/freezing containers??
first food other than cereal was bananas.
I use the kidco trays to freeze the food and then I pop the cubes out and store them in the 1st years take & toss bowls. They fit the cubes perfectly and I can pull out a bowls the night before for breakfast, lunch and dinner. If I make a big batch of something I use the gallon freezer bags.
I am a fan of glass (used glass bottles) and I think babyfood jars are fine as long as you are careful with them.
