Moms, may I intrude on your board for a moment?

So if you dont already know, my best friend Diane MrsDiamondgrlie had her baby boy today! (see pregnancy board)

I have a few questions...

First, what is something you received in the hospital or wish you had received? I want to do something for HER you know what I mean? The baby usually gets all of the gifts!

Secondly, is there a normal protocol for how long one is in the hospital? I know its different for everyone but she had natural childbirth today at 5 PM - when do you think she wil go home? She isnt sure yet and I am all the way in Queens while she is in Suffolk. I dont think I will be able to make the visiting hours tomorrow and I am hoping/wondering if she will still be there on Saturday, even if for the morning at least.

Sorry if I am rambling, I am overcome with emotion right now!

Bring them dinner, that was nice when I first came home. My parents did that for us and it helped a lot. Also, DH's partner brought us 2 dozen bagels, cream cheese, butter, etc and it was great b/c we could serve them when other people came over.

As for the hospital, I had my DS on a Thursday night, vaginal birth (she went vaginal, right?) and I left Saturday morning, later in the morning. They said since I had him at 10pm that I could have stayed til Sunday, but I wanted to go home.

My Mom brought me perfume which I appreciated as a "me" gift. I would have loved a g/c for a pedicure too.

No idea on how long she'll be in - probably not too long though - she may be home by Sat

Meals and gift certificates along with babysitting services for a night out

I got a really nice pair of PJ's and super comfy slippers from a friend after delivering. It was a really sweet gift and I practically lived in them for a while.

oooooh thats a good one too! I had better not buy too much, I will have to leave room for the baby and his stuff!

I would have loved a cookie bouquet. A gift a magazines, a pedicure gift cert. + baby sitting coupon from you, or any assortment of lotions and bath stuff would have been wonderful gifts aside from a heartfelt card and visit at the hospital.

I loved both the cookie bouquet & fruit basket when we got home. I didn't stock my house beforehand since I had no idea I was going to be in labor. We were starving when we got home.

At the hospital, I wanted a vanilla shake. (You can tell how I packed on my post partum weight )

One of my favorite things was babysitting for an hour or two & a gc to a local restaurant.

My friend gave me a gift certificate for a massage a the hospital for when i was ready after the baby was born..def appreciated that! hth

I loved an edible arrangement I got...YUMMY!

I had a baby naturally at 11:00 pm on a Thursday night two years ago (OMG it was two years ago... )
They released me on Saturday Morning...

ETA: ANY gifts I got for her were awesome too, at this point it really is ALL about the baby....any clothes she got were like I was getting them...and I enjoyed every single outfit....plus, I was sooooo ginormous, it was fun to focus on her cuteness.

The above moms posted some great ideas already. I wish I got some (or any)of the above. The meals I especially would have appreciated (or anything food related.)

I brought an edible arrangement to my friend when she had her baby- but that might be something that might be better off receiving when she is already home.

I didnt really need/want anything in the hospital, but we totally appreciated food brought to us when we got home- it made life just soooo much easier.

The best thing I got was a Starbucks gift card, it was great since some have drive thru and it was easier not to have to get Taylor out of the car.

well, i had the BEST thing happen to me- a couple of my friends went to the place where i get my pedis, and begged begged begged one of the girls to come to the hospital to give me a pedi right there in the hospital....!!! they paid her well, and i dont know how they got her to say yes, but it was a WONDERFUL experience!!!

ps- i know i know, it wasnt like sitting there in the pedi chairs or anything, but it was nice to have a little frenchie on my toes and a massage and stuff, right there in the hospital!!
