Mom's of 1 1/2 - 2 year olds

How much milk is your child drinking? Are they still using a bottle?

I can't get Charlie to drink milk from anything but a bottle. He drinks 30oz a day but I find when he drinks a 4th bottle he sleeps better. Is 40oz too much?

My DD is 18 months and the doc said no more than 24 ounces of milk a day... rest from food.

Oh- and no, DD is not on a bottle anymore- only sippy cup- she just sort of stopped asking for them.

My ped said the same thing when we saw him last week for DS's 18 mo. checkup..

We usually average around that much a day, sometimes a bit more, usually a bit less..

And umm yeah we are STILL on the bottle for milk around here Chat Icon (He will NOT TAKE MILK from a SIPPY or STRAW cup at ALL Chat Icon)

DD is 20 mths and stopped getting a bottle the day of her first birthday.

She drinks probably 2 cups of milk a day. One with breakfast and one after dinner but before bed.

They drink an 8 ounce cup when they wake up, 4-5 ounces after lunch and 8 ounces to however many they ask for more before bedtime.

Start giving him the cup with milk at lunchtime, that's what I did and then when I gave it in the morning or night they didn't think anything of it. I also give their milk and water in two very different sippy cups. HTH!

No bottles here, DD is 23 months. She drinks about 16 oz. of milk a day. Our pedi said no more than 18 oz. a day. IMO, 40 oz. is a lot!

DD is 20 months old. Has not used a bottle since she was 5 1/2 months old. She drinks about 4 oz. in a sippy cup of low fat organic lowfat milk about 2-3 times a day. Depends. She does eat cheeses and other sources of calcium.

DS is 21 months old and is strictly on the sippy cup. We stopped the bottle the month after his first birthday.

40 oz. does seem like alot of mild. DS only drinks about 10 oz per day now. He has a cup in the morning and a cup right before bed.

I am in the same boat....I posted a plea for some helpful tips, but haven't gotten anything yet. below is my post, oh and DS takes 14-21 oz of milk a day.

"Any tips? I have tried a special cup, didn't work....i tried chocolate and strawberry milk, just to intice him....didn't work! He is now 20 mos and I would like to get him off the bottle soon."

Ditto to everything above except mine is a he not a she. Chat Icon I think the 40oz is a lot too. What does your ped say about it? My DS takes a 8oz milk in the AM and an 8oz milk in the PM. If he wanted one midday, which he doesn't generally have, I would probably make that milk and the evening one smaller.

Re: Mom's of 1 1/2 - 2 year olds

DD is 22 mths. She has been off the bottle for about 2 mths. (up til then she had straw cups all day but just nighttime bottle) She drinks about 10 oz milk a day from her straw cup and eats cheese and yogurt every day as well. IMHO - 40 oz sounds like way too much. Id talk to the ped and get their opinion. HTH!

DD is 18 months. She drinks about 24 oz of milk a day. She hasn't had a bottle since 11 months. She is all on the sippy cup.

I think more than 30 oz is too much milk.

16 oz a day approximately only out of a sippy cup since 14 months. can you try other sources of calcium like yogurt instead?

John does 3 bottles of 8 ounces each. Sometimes he won't drink it all. I have been thinking the same thing, to start weaning him off the afternoon bottle to a sippy cup. Let me know how it goes and maybe I can start at your house this weekend. Chat Icon

Jack stopped using bottles on his first birthday. We give him 3 8oz sippy cups of milk a day with breakfast, lunch and dinner. Sometimes he finishes them all and even asks for more and sometimes he doesn't even finish one. A sippy with water is also available to him all day.

eta: he's 19 months
