Moms of 12-14 mth olds, please list your food suggestions
Everyday I feel I struggle with what to give my DD. I dont know why, but I need suggestions.
Part of my issue is that DD gets constipated badly, so things she loves like cheese and bread, etc, are the worst things for her. But even still, I want to see what you are feeding your DC and I want all suggestions. Thanks

Abby is not a great eater and is on the small side. We feed her highly caloric foods with fat from good sources and get the proteins and veggies in when we can. So far spinach quiche has been a favorite as well as mashed potatoes with sour cream and butter. She doesn't eat too much so its not bad for her.

Yogurt and lots of it. I buy the big Dannon or Stonyfield container and give it with fruit cups-- mandarin oranges, peaches, applesauce etc. I find that keep DS regular. Pasta fagioli is big here--so good for them and a big pot makes several meals! He does eat whatever we eat for dinner chicken, pork, broccoli etc all cut up nice and tiny...

I'm not too good at this either. Aiden is still drinking 5 bottles a day of milk and eating 3 small meals a day
Breakfast -- cereal, oatmeal, waffle with butter
Lunch -- grilled cheese, cheese, croissant (he loves), fruit, applesauce
Dinner -- pastina, tortellini w'tomato sauce, bread, pizza, fruit, applesauce, broccoli, a little of whatever we are having, sweet potatoes

avocado fruit (strawberries, blueberries, quartered grapes, bananas) spaghetti with sauce omlette/scrambled eggs with veggies french toast pancakes waffles rice
Lately though, anything we eat, she eats as well unless it's really spicy. I just make sure to cut it into tiny pieces.

Re: Moms of 12-14 mth olds, please list your food suggestions
Breakfast oatmeal with applesauce, banana, waffles, pancakes, eggs, yogurt
Lunch whole wheat bread, cheese, avocado, pasta, butternut squash, left overs from dinner,
Dinner pasta with beans, escarole and beans II cut up the escarole into small pieces), pasta with sauce, homemade minestrone soup, homemade vegetable soup, veggie burgers, mashed potatoes, butternut squash, pizza (I cut it up into small pieces), rice and beans, burritos cut up,

I do make this and havent given her cannelini beans yet. Do you put those beans in yours? My DD loves loves loves my lentil soup though...have you tried that?
And as for the yogurt with fruit, you give the fruit peices whole or you cut them up and mix them with yogurt? Do you spoon feed him this or does he pick it up? Some things are so slippery for them to pick up.

See this is where I get stumped. Do you give a fresh fruit, jarred fruit or other? And what about the veggie? Again fresh or jarred?
How to prepare the fresh veggies is where I get sooooo stumped!!

You should try my grandma's lentil soup, sounds like you all will love it.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Re: Moms of 12-14 mth olds, please list your food suggestions
I feed my kids carb protein and veg or fruit at every meal. I find it easier when I think like that:
Breakfast Ians French Toast sticks Bananna Apple Peaches Yogurt Mango Pear cut up grapes Whatever fruit is in season I also do mini cinnamon raising bagels with cream cheese
Lunch Natural cold cuts from Whole Foods: Chicken turkey etc-I ask them to cut 2 thick slices and that is usually a 1/2 pund-then I dice green beans peas Asparagus lima beans edamame Broccoli cauliflower Pok chop Chicken mini meatloafs with veggies mixed in "chicken fingers" I buy organic ground chicken roll in panko and bake Sw Potato-orange and purple(these dice really nicely and my kids love them Squash-I buy winter squash cut in half and season and bake for 40 minutes or so-then dice
Dinner is a variation on lunch

Stupid question but what size peices of fresh fruit do you cut? And do your boys eat large items on their own...do you hadn them the mini bagel or do you break it up?
You feed your boys so great, I admire that. I want to do a better job, not happy with what I have been doing!

The mandarin oranges he LOVES--I cut them in half and he picks them up with his fingers--he actually is starting to stab foods and pick them up with the fork now too. The other fruits like peaches I tend to leave diced and he handles them just fine--picks them up after I drain the juice out well. I keep the fruit and yogurt seperate. The fruit keeps his hand occupied while I feed him the yogurt.
Yes I used cannellini beans in mine. I haven't tried lentils yet but I should!

Re: Moms of 12-14 mth olds, please list your food suggestions
DD loves veggies. But sometimes it's hard to cook fresh veggies when I'm in a rush so I always have a bag of frozen Stop & Shop organic veggies. All the veggies are diced, including the green beans, so they are perfect for DD to pick up & feed herself (she's 10 months). I just saute in a tiny bit of butter. She eats about a 1/4 cup at dinner. She will not eat canned veggies for some reason, which is fine with me since they are not all natural. She also eats diced/shredded chicken breast every night for dinner. I cook it on Mondays and Wednesdays and she eats the leftovers in between. Sometimes I use thin sliced turkey breast (organic) instead. I bake it. She also eats Ditalini pasta a few times a week. Again, perfect for little hands to pick up, no cutting required.

Re: Moms of 12-14 mth olds, please list your food suggestions
DD will be 1 year on 12/25...this is her schedule...
Wake up 7 AM: 6-8 oz formula
Morning Snack: Yogurt and Cheerios, toasted mini-waffles, toast w/apricot preserves, plain whole wheat pancakes, oatmeal with blueberries (I froze them this past summer)
Noon: 8oz bottle formula
Afternoon Meal/Dinner: I put these together because a lot of her lunches are leftovers from the previous night:
Quinoa mixed with sweet potatoes or any veggie or fruit Piccolini (mini pasta) with either my homemade sauce or Earth's Best Tomato Carrot Stage 2, Happy Baby Frozen Cubes, I made a ton of squash and apples in October and will defrost a few cubes for her and mix it with Quinoa or just give it to her plain, meatballs: turkey, chicken, beef, pork...I buy them all ground and make her all different kinds of meatballs. She loves them. I also used ground meat and mix it with a little broth and some mashed veggies and cheese--she loves that too.
Wholesomebabyfoods.com is my recipe source. I hardly refer to it anymore because I have already learned so much.

I read that around 1 their food should be the size of a pea and that their throats are the size of your pinky so I use that as a guide. Most of the food they get is soft. Fruit is around that size and meat, definitely...the bagel I tear up and i tend to make those a bit bigger than pea sized since it is almost impossible to get it that small. Honestly-think about how you would eat if you had the perfect, healthy diet and then feed her that stuff. I am still waiting for it to rub off on me

I have given fresh and the containers (like the dole ones) for veggies, I give fresh, canned, or frozen. Fresh is usually green beans, broccoli, carrots, or cauliflower. Most of the time i take the zip and steam bags and just steam them in the microwave. Comes out perfect.
