Moms of 2, 3 4 mo olds is this normal? Re: Licking, chewing etc...

So whenever he is on his tummy ds will not stop licking whatever is in front of him - a blanket, his tummy time mat etc. It drives me NUTS - it is so gross and after awhile i end up picking him up just to stop him and it ends up shortening his tummy time - is this normal? How can i stop it? He also will lick your shoulder or shirt if he is on you!

Also, Ds loves to eat his bibs - another gross habit! He takes his hands and shoves his bibs in his mouth! This goes on constantly - hungry or not. Is this normal?

UGH!

YUP totally normal and will not end anytime soon!!!

DD has always licked, s u cked on and put ANYTHING she can find in her mouth. It's part of their development and how they learn. They explore through taste, texture, etc all with the mouth.

Unless it's something dangerous or dirty let him have his funChat Icon

I try to wipe down the tummy time mat but I feel like...how could it possibly be clean enouugh to put in his mouth? What do you use? Also, he ends up getting the cotton from the bibs and the burp cloths in his mouth! Am I just being a germaphobe?

DD is 1 now, but when she was younger I just tried my best to keep things clean. If they could go in the washing machine I'd wash it weekly (unless she spit up or something), rinsed her toys in hot water/soap frequently, etc. I didn't really worry too much about it. NOthing really touched her stuff but her. I undertand being concerned about germs, but honestly it only gets worse!!!

Once they start crawling they eat every piece of dust, dirt, lint etc they find on the floor. No matter how much you clean, they will find it!!!

Yeah that is 100% normal, DS started this around 3 months old and now at 6 monhts he is still doing it.

Its the way they explore their world, , unless he is licking something harmful, I say let him do it.

I usually let DS lick, or bite pretty much anything such as his toys, his bouncy, his jumperroo.

Totally normal... DS is putting everything in his mouth. Now he is starting to stick his tongue out all the time. he is one big drooly mess!
Just make sure they don't get their hands on anything really dirty!

YUP mine does it too...I'll have him propped up on my shoulder, look down, and there he is licking away!

Sometimes (especially if its soon after a bottle) I lay him on a receiving blanket during tummy time on his play mat.

DD does this all the time and she is 4 months old. If she can get it near her mouth it will be slimed.
