Moms of 2...if your DC have to share a room
I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to do with DD's room once DS comes, or rather, I need to figure this out and take care of it now long before he's ever actually on the scene. I'm fine with the idea of them sharing a room in theory - I don't have any other options anyway since we live in a 2 bedroom apartment - but as I start to plan how I'm going to change the room I'm feeling terrible to my DD.
I feel like I'm stealing her room from her.
Right now it's pink and green and chock full of delicious girliness... and in a few months I'll be putting a boy in there.
I don't want to put my son in a girly room, so I plan to paint it with more neutral colors, but once I take out that pink and green and replace it with a more neutral beige (and possibly a light blue because it's pretty) I can't help but wonder how DD will feel about this. It doesn't help that I kind of hate the color yellow
It's making me really sad and I just don't want to do it.
Has anyone dealt with this? And even if you haven't, does anyone have a hug for a hormonal preggo?

Re: Moms of 2...if your DC have to share a room
I have no solution, but I feel your pain...
First, congrats on #2. Some people can't even have one, so you're lucky there.
Second, for feeling like you're stealing DC's room from her. It's a tough call, but you'll make the best decision you can.
WE have two boys and were hoping to keep them in the same room. I didn't want to steal older DS's crib from him, so we kept his crib in the room and then added a 2nd one for younger DS. Having them both in the same room isn't really working out, so we're moving younger DS's crib to the den and I feel bad taking the nursery rocking chair away from older DS.

Re: Moms of 2...if your DC have to share a room
My situation is a little different yet similar
I painted the bedroom green since I didnt know the sex of DC#1. He was a boy. Then I had DC#2...he is a boy.
HOWEVER if I did have a girl I would have just had to have a mixed up room. Boy stuff and girl stuff combined.
It will be great. Your DS will think she is getting her own live baby :)-

Re: Moms of 2...if your DC have to share a room
I would just paint 1 wall for the boy and leave the rest of her room as is.

I'm praying that's the case!
She is just SO possessive of me and DH. Ever since I found out it's a boy, everyone keeps talking to her about her brother, and basically, she's over it.
I'm an only child so this is very foreign territory for me. I think I'm feeling lots of guilt all the way around. I wanted to have a second child as much as I wanted a first, and now that he's on his way I feel like I should have asked my toddler her opinion on the subject. Which of course, is ridiculous but I'm very worried about her feelings.

Re: Moms of 2...if your DC have to share a room
How about a gender neutral theme that would be fun for both of them? Like a farm or something? On the girl side you can put flowers and rainbows, etc and on the boy side tractor, dogs, horses, etc?

Re: Moms of 2...if your DC have to share a room
Why not split the room in half.. Make one side super girly and one side super boy.. You could put Girls Rule on one side on the wall and Boys Rule on the other side. Make it a fun contrast! Don't feel bad. I grew up with one room for 4 kids and DS is still in my room since we only have one room.

Re: Moms of 2...if your DC have to share a room
We have one large room that we are hoping both kids can share for a couple of years anyway. Its painted green. My first child is a girl and like you a couple of weeks before my second was born I started feeling guilty and I really thought I should have a girl as there was no way I could put a boy in this room....well what do you know I had a boy So now his crib is in her girly room and its fine. I did buy a blue and brown mobile for him and a new laundry basket which is blue with brown spots. At this age ( 6mths) he doesnt know better but maybe when he is a little older and they are still sharing I will incorporate some boyish stuff in there.
So take a deep breathe and realize you have at least a year after you son is born to worry about this AND your DD is going to be so in love with her new brother to care about sharing her room, in fact she will probably love it.

Re: Moms of 2...if your DC have to share a room
our DC's room is a real nice green, ones side is DS's side, toddler bed, boy decorations, bookshelf, etc the other side has DD's crib, girly decorations, etc. The room actually came out really cute. i was also not sure how to decorate for both but somehow it worked out. I tried to keep green and brown in both their decorations (his is an animal/jungle theme and hers is butterflies, flowers and obviously pink is mixed in-gotta have the pink for a girl LOL). The changing table is against a wall that's in between the two sides of the room, so I got a green, pink and brown dot cover this way its not too girly for the room (DS is obviously to big for it so its only for her anyway) and then I hung a silhouette picture of a boy and a girl on a seesaw and put their initial on either side. The curtain is a neutral beige that goes with both. If they each had their own room, I would have done a different color and decorations, but I felt this was a nice in between for both for the time being. good luck

I have two boys and they are in the same room. I felt bad about it at first, but they just love being together. I thought it would be such a problem, but it's working out quite nicely!

Re: Moms of 2...if your DC have to share a room
I feel your anguish. Even though I have both DDs in different rooms, I've wrestled with the same fears regarding taking things from DD#1 for DD#2.
As far as the room goes, maybe you can paint the room a nice aqua color. I think you could use aqua with brown and or white for both and then just do "girls" accents on your DDs side of the room and "boy" accents on DS's side of the room.
Here is a bedding set you could maybe use for either, or both DC. The company actually calls this bedding a boys bedding but I think it could be used either way. There are others too, I'd be happy to help you look online if you want!
Don't worry! It will all be okay. I know it is hard not to get anxious about it all now, but you'll figure it out, and kids are resilient, your DD will roll with it!

Re: Moms of 2...if your DC have to share a room
Hi, not a mom, but I lhave a decorating idea.
I saw the pics in your album & I love the shade of green you have. I'd just paint the top half ivory/beige & leave the green, so you can leave some of the acessories. If DD has anything pink that she is attached to it will still go, so she can keep it & not freak out, but then the room is not overwhelmingly pink for your son.
So, the theme will be green & ivory or beige, with pink accents for her & whatever color choose as accents for him. You can still do blue accents--I like blue & green together, but a darker brown would work too.

She may LOVE the idea...I would present her with paint options...all of your choosing of course..let her pick the actual shade etc, involve her in it!!!

I don't have this issue obviously, but Christopher is really into helping. Maybe if you have Elizabeth help paint and help decorate she will totally get into it?

Re: Moms of 2...if your DC have to share a room
We live in a 2 bedroom and DD#1 and DD#2 will share a room. It helps that they are both girls....but what about painting two walls boy colors and decorating them for DS and leaving the other two walls for DD. Leave it pink. I'm not a fan of yellow either so I wouldn't go that route...but that's just me.

My DC share a room - it is painted in browns and accented in sage green. My situation is different though, because they were born at the same time, so I planned for a gender-neutral room.

Or how about a toile? You could get green for DS and pink for DD, or green for both, or black, etc...the possibilities are wide open! Besides this crib bedding posted here they also sell twin sets in toile.
Just some ideas for you.

I toile.
I'm loving everyone's ideas, actually. Thanks, all. Keep them coming!
And wrt to the shade of green - I think Tourist mentioned it - I fell in love with that color first. DD's room grew around it... I think the thought of changing it hurts the most.

Re: Moms of 2...if your DC have to share a room
I think with the baby being small, you can get away with doing what someone suggested and paint the wall where the crib will be a a boy color and make it boyish. Gives you time to decide what to do as he gets a bit older and DD will be a bit older too and can give better input.
Congrats BTW, I didn't know you were even preggo with #2, let alone that you know the gender. God Bless!!Are you using "the boy name"? (Our boy name LOL) If you are let me know, I have a personalized baby name framed print that I'd love to pass on if you want it. It's too young for my 7 1/2 year old

Re: Moms of 2...if your DC have to share a room
I'm finding out the sex of #2 soon. I'm worried about the same things you are. I love DD's room the way it is (pink and green) and they will most likely be sharing a room. If its a boy, I don't know what I'm going to do...I feel like I'd be taking something away from DD by changing it too. But, I think everyone gave some good ideas. Sorry I'm not help, just wanted to say that I can relate to your feelings!
