Moms of 8-10 month olds: DC feeding themselves
Does anyone's DC prefer if you feed him or her? DS is 8.5 months old. He has a good pincer grasp and has no problem picking up food like puffs. However, he smiles and squeals when he picks a puff up and shakes his hand just like he would with a toy. He doesn't put them in his mouth. He loves different textures and feeling things with his fingers. He enjoys squeezing and touching the puffs.
If I have a puff in my hand, he'll open his mouth so I can feed him. When he had a puff in his hand yesterday, I guided his arm towards him and he actually fed himself. He played with the next puff though. He has no problem feeding himself mum mums or fruit in the mesh feeder.
When did DC start feeding himself/herself things like puffs?

DS is 10 months and picks everything up and puts it in his mouth-EXCEPT food. He will hold food in his hand but then shake it and watch it fall to the floor.
Anything else, right in the mouth!

Re: Moms of 8-10 month olds: DC feeding themselves
My DS is also about 8.5 months and I tried giving him cereal puffs over the weekend.
I actually put the puffs in his mouth and he just use his tongue to push it back out. I also put a few puffs on his tray and when I turned around they are all over the floor. :P
My friend who has a 1 yo. told me that her DD didn't start feeding herself until closer to 1 yo. but most of the food end up on the floor!
I honestly won't try letting mine feed himself until he's closer to 1 yo. It gets too messy right now 'cus they really aren't that interested in food as food, but more as toys.
:P

Re: Moms of 8-10 month olds: DC feeding themselves
My children don't fit into this age category (5 months & 3 years old) but I had to respond that my 3 year old prefers I feed her rather than her feed herself. She will actually ask me to "help her" eat. She is something else! I wouldn't worry about it at that age, honsetly. It could be worse---you could be me!

DD used to do that, now she literally picks everything up and eats it..and only wants to feed herself and gets angry when we try to feed her with a spoon!!

My DS is 8.5 months old & he very much prefers to feed himself. He will not let you feed him unless it is with a spoon. If we try to feed him food with our hands he won't take it. He wants do it himself. He eats puffs, cheerios & yogurt melts everyday as snacks and feeds himself pretty good now. Last night I cut up a waffle & he fed himself a few pieces.

Brooke, we are having the exact same issue. She'll eat the puffs if I feed them to her, but she just wants to play with them when we give them to her to feed to herself.
I'm not stressing out about it...she'll get it eventually, and then EVERYTHING will go in her mouth!

At 10 months old my DD began feeding herself everything she could pick up with no problem. She loves feeding herself thankfully and it's a blessing for me!!

My DD can eat puffs/small finger foods herself. We still give her her pureed foods and cereal with a spoon.
