Moms of 9 month olds.... sleep question.

Let me say I am VERY thankful that my daughter sleeps the way that she does, but compared to the other kiddies im hearing about I think it may be too much.

She sleeps a solid 12 hrs. at night, everynight.

2 naps a day:
Morning nap is usually 1-2 hrs.

Afternoon nap 1hr.

thats 14-15 hrs. total per day of sleeping. Thats fine or too much? My cousin has an 11 month old and says it way too much.

Can you let me in on how many hrs. your 9month old sleeps? THANK YOU!!

I would think if she's sleeping that long it's because she needs to. Chat Icon

Doesn't sound too far off from my twins sleep times. they sleep 11 hours at night and same naps as your DD (if we are home). When we are out they don't sleep. Chat Icon

My 10 month old twins are on the same schedule as yours. I can't keep them awake for more than 2.5 hours.

My 9 month old doesnt sleep at all so I think your DD's sleep habits sound wonderful!

In all seriousness though, as a PP stated, if she is sleeping that much she obviously needs it. Also, I think that as long as she is keeping active when awake it is fine.

My son is about the same give or take an hour or two.

From everything I've read, it's completely normal at this age to sleep up to 12hrs at night and take 2 naps a day.

my 9 month old son sleeps the exact same amount. He sleeps 7pm to 6am. He takes two naps everyday. Each nap can be 1-2 hours long. He loves his sleep!

I don't think kids can have too much sleep Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Moms of 9 month olds.... sleep question.

At 9 months, DD was sleeping about 10.5 hours at night and usually (2) naps that were about 1-1.5 hours each...usually no more than 2.5 hours of naps. So a total of 13 hours of sleep per day max, often only 12.5 hours.

It's on the lower side compared to friends' kids.

studies show, the most inventive creative and intelligent people in history are great sleepers.

There is never such a thing as too much sleep.

DS is 8.5 months and sleeps about the same as well. 11 hours at night and 2 or 3 naps which total anywhere from 1.5 - 3 hours.

My DD was getting
11h night
3h AM
2h PM

Somewhere after 9m she started going bonkers - blame separation anxiety, her eye teeth coming in, becoming a brat Chat Icon whatever.

Now, she is almost 10m -- she sometimes skips the PM nap, she is still sleeping 11-12h at night but sometimes wakes up randomly for a few minutes here and there

Anyway, I think that is great- enjoy it!

I wish DD would sleep that much!! DD sleeps 11ish at night, and another 1.5-2 during the day. I don't think that is enough.

Re: Moms of 9 month olds.... sleep question.

ok thanks for the reassurance everyone Chat Icon Chat Icon

The time she is awake she is very active and stimulated, we go out for walks, to the park, etc. I feel better now, some family members were making it seem as if *I'm* putting her too sleep to often or too long.

Thanks girlsChat Icon
