Moms of boy/s AND girl/s, or moms of boys, or you know what...moms of even just ONE boy...
WHAT IS IT WITH THESE CREATURES??!!!
As many of you know, I had and and then 3.5 years after that I had . And it was great! He was a perfect newborn and infant. Lovely temperament, easygoing disposition, apple of my eye.
19.5 months later... All hell is breaking loose!
It is non-stop. And by "it" I mean everything. Running, throwing, destroying, jumping, eating, removing of the shoes, deleting of the answering machine messages, tossing of the folded laundry. E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G.
I am in a constant state of chaos over here and already my (and my girls') summer's looking bleak considering the fact that I cried the entire walk home from the library yesterday on day one. But in fairness, I should have had the common sense not to bring a child whose main mission in life is to throw every book off of every shelf here at home to a place that contains nothing BUT books.
So, back to the subject...is it just me or are boys and girls really different? I didn't grow up with boys as I have no brothers and 95% of my cousins are female. Yes, my girls had their challenges and tantrums, but this is just nuts! What is your experience?
And lastly, parents of boys...you folks deserve a medal! I don't think I'm going to be around to claim mine because I'll either have jumped from my roof, checked into an asylum or drank myself silly.

My first son was an angel. Rarely threw tantrums, made normal messes but not destructive ones etc. He was such an easy toddler. At 4.5yo he is fresh and a PITA sometimes but even on his worst day he can't compare to his brother.
DS2 is the tazmanian devil! I can't clean when he is around because he literally just follwos me undoing eveything I have done! He climbs, he throws, he hits, he yells, he takes everything (spent 2 hours the other day looking for my car keys!) I will be shocked if I dont find him hanging from the ceiling fan soon! He is just a menace! About 5 months ago a man in McDonalds said he looked like Dennis the Menace, I wish I could speak to this man again and tell him how right he is!!!!!

Let me tell you a secret- what you described is EXACTLY how my 2 year old DD is. She is the horrendous. Beyond, beyond horrendous.
So I don't think it's a sex thing- I think it's a temperant thing. Or an age thing. Or I spawned Lucifer.

I'll let you know in about a year and a half. So far, at 4 months-- he is much more mobile and all over the place-- doing things months before dd. Anything within his reach he grabs onto and picks up. i'm worried about the future!!

It makes me feel better that other moms are saying their DDs are worse. My 2 DS are just like you described and they are 3 and 1. Although the 3 year old is getting a LITTLE easier these days.
My friends with little girls don't understand why we can't go out to dinner with them at 7:30pm. Their girls sit perfectly at the table and drink and eat and smile. My boys are running throughout the restaurant, throwing other kids food on the floor (yes this has happened) and screaming at the top of their lungs. I am the most calm, easy going, mild mannered person ever. I don't know where these two came from. !

does anyone else recall the "girl vs. boy" gem of a thread from a few months back?
eta - i hope it gets better. my son has his moments but in all honesty (and compared to the stories i hear) he is an angel.

Re: Moms of boy/s AND girl/s, or moms of boys, or you know what...moms of even just ONE boy...
Yeah, see, that's the thing too. I find that the 2nd kids are very frequently nuts. My 2nd DD was and IS (at age 5, no less) very challenging. You know, the kind who is unmoved by any sort of discipline you can think of yet constantly gets in trouble. The phrase "Abby, calm down!!" is the most frequently heard here.
But DS started life as the best baby we've had...NO contest. I thought I hit the jackpot. But around 16-18 months he transformed! And he is still a pretty jolly kid, but he IS like the Tasmanian Devil.
I'm freakin' exhausted!

My oldest son is JUST like you are describing. My second son is the opposite. It is a facet of their temperament more than anything else.

Me too. I think we have the same Child. I leave places stressed and on the verge of tears sometimes and wonder why I go out in public. Everyday, we have a screaming tantrum out and about. But I just go on. She has to learn.
ETA: DD was the best infant. Sttn VERY early. My dh were just saying how easy the first year was. Our frineds we sleepless and having a hard time and we were just like not us. She fit right into our lives. Then came her 1st bday, literally. That day and even now at 2 a flip was turned on and she has been so bad!!!

I have the opposite problem- DS is sweet (and older) while DD has been trying my patience A LOT lately. I think it's more about age than gender.

I only have one child (as of now...will have more hopefully) but my DS will be 3 in August and as soon as he was mobile...my house was destroyed and I started getting grey hair lol. He's very very physical and does not sit still to color, play etc. MAYBE will play with blocks for about 5 minutes. That's it. I love having a boy and would love more. But at times I think a girl might be quieter but I would dread the drama to come later on.

DS is the same way. He just turned 2 and is very physical. We have enough toys to keep him busy but he get's very "creative" with his toys. We have a train set and he plays with it. When he gets sick of it he'll throw the trains at the dogs. Then he'll push the train table (yes, the entire wooden train table with storage cubbies) around the living room and say "choo-choo!" He loves rearranging our furniture. Instead of playing on the swing set or water table he'd rather chase the dogs or flip over the lawn furniture. I just don't get it. He doesn't ride his power wheel, he pushes it into the planters. Someone please tell me it's just a phase.

DS is non stop as well but, it's gotten a little better.
He doesn't throw tantrums unless he's exhausted but, he doesn't stop moving! At 2 1/2 he's starting to play with things a little after he dumps them before moving on - which is nice (before he used to just dump everything and create chaos!) He's also better when we go visiting - he has been known to try to empty people's cabinets...
I am not used to holding adult conversations anymore when we go places because I never get to sit still!!! We have figured out how to go out to dinner with him but, we still rush through it.
Most of our good friends had girls who weren't as energetic but, they have since had boys and are in the same boat.

Re: Moms of boy/s AND girl/s, or moms of boys, or you know what...moms of even just ONE boy...
I have two boys.
My first DS was fine as a toddler, no destroying. The second one, forget it. He is a lot like yours. And his older brother finds it very entertaining and eggs him on. I am outnumbered during the day!
What helps the most is having a sense of humor about it!!! And getting out of the house as much as possible to keep him occupied.
Every child has their challenges. My mother tells me "If they don't give you headaches now, don't pat yourself on the back, they will give you headaches later"!!

You're scaring me. DS is 13 months and into everything much more than his big sister ever was and more than his twin sister. He bites the window frame, tries to touch things he shouldn't. When I say "No, Patrick!" he just looks at me & grins. I have a feeling that I am in for so much trouble ahead. I think I will be joining you in that asylum (& drinking myself silly!)

I can't tell you how many places I have left with Owen slung over my shoulder.
My oldest, Claire, has been pretty easy so far. Who knows how our youngest will be (she's only 8 months old). Owen is such a toughie-he is very rough and very stubborn.
