Moms of eczema babies...

So DS was diagnosed with eczema last week and I changed our whole routine. No more daily baths, tons of moisturizer and cortizone....

The cortaid has removed the redness from the rash but the bumps are not gone at all! Does this mean we need the prescrip cortizone?

We have been bathing every 3 days or so and everytime he has a bath the rash gets worse all over again. DS is an active 19 month old that formerly got bathed every day or every other day - so every 3 days and he is definitely in need of a bath, I really can't stretch it much longer...

I know that once the rash is under control we will have to be extra careful to keep it at bay, but we just can't seem to control it....

Also, opinions on sunscrean for summer would be good...and what do you do about baths on those days? I firmly believe that sunscreen needs to be washed off on the same day and it is toxic stuff...but that would require more baths and hence worse rash...ugh!

Please help!

Andy doesn't get bumps, it's red and dry and flaky and often the skin breaks. We use the cortizone unitl the red goes away, and then I moisturize a lot of keep the dryness under control. Unfortunately, it's around his mouth and he drools a lot so it's a losing battle and I haven't found a moisturizer that can keep up. Aquaphor seems to work best but he's still very dry. I hear great things about the Burts Bees butermilk baby lotion, but he's allergic to milk so we can't try that one.

As far as washing, every day I wipe him down with a wet washcloth and a little soap on it and then dry him right away. I do baths every 3rd day. I think it's that for some weird reason, lots of moisture leads to dry skin. I don't get it.

I use the Coppertone Water Babies sunblock and haven't seen a problem yet.
