Moms of GF kids, Bday party Q
My DS has been GF for about a month and a half, so far so good. I was just wondering what you do when it comes time for your DC to attend a birthday party? Do you bring their own food to eat at the party? Just wondering as he got invited to two parties next month. TIA!

My friends with GF kids or kids that have allergies always bring the food/desserts to the party. i wouldn't mention it to the host of the party because you don't want them to feel obligated to get GF food but when you get there just mention why you brought it.

Ooo while i do not watch this with my child, i would say maybe bring food to ensure your child eats what he can. Bday parties have pizza and cake and candy, im sure no gluten free. If he cannot even havr a lil bit i would say bring food :)

Yes always bring your own food and let the other parents know he is strictly GF.

If you're stick you GF bring your own food. Gluten can be hidden in so many things the host could buy something just for your child that may not be acceptable anyway.

Re: Moms of GF kids, Bday party Q
We always bring our own stuff. I usually ask whoever is hosting what will be served so I can try to bring a GF version of that. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't, luckily my DD is so used to having something different is usually doesn't matter. If I can't match it, I usually bring something I know she loves.
I usually bake a batch of cupcakes in the beginning of May and freeze enough for 1 a a weekend, since that's how the parties seem to go! Then I can just defrost and put icing on as needed.
Just a warning - sometimes they feel left out, and it is heartbreaking, but you gotta do what you gotta do. As easy going as my girl is, sometimes she just wants to have what the other kids are having, definitely a good idea to have a chat before hand so he knows he will have his own special stuff. Also, people may say they will have GF options, but they don't always know enough about it, I always bring something, even if it's just snacks. Learned that the hard way...
