Moms of Identical Twins...how do you tell them apart?

I know many ppl tell me, "you will just know" but i know that it does not happen overnight. im so anxious that i wont be able to tell my twin boys apart...especially in the beginning.

i already plan on dressing them in different colors, but that doesnt really help when you give them baths, etc.
i have heard of maybe painting the toe nail of one of them? im gonna try that even though they are boys (its one tiny toe nail), but come summer when i leave them w/o socks i dont want the nail showing so that wont work for long...

please share your tips with an anxious M.O.M. (mom of multiples) to be!!!

TIA

Aww, no advice, no twins here. But I think its cute that your so worried. I think the nail thing is a good idea. If you paint one nail with just a hint of color, noone will even notice. Chat Icon

my cousin dressed them in 2 different colors. baby A is always in blue or green. baby B is always in red or yellow. (both are boys)

after the first 6 months she was able to tell them apart just by looking at them. by them their personalities are clear.

I pretty much knew who was who from the very beginning...

Of course I got them mixed up from time to time but I usually figured it out right away. Dont worry you'll be able to tell them apart...

In my case I didnt have to worry really. One of my girls had a birth mark on her tummy so if I wasnt able to tell them apart I just had to strip them down. But I dont recall ever having to do that.

ETA: For the most part I can go back after all these years and still tell them apart in baby pics.

DH is an Identical twin and my MIL says that she always dressed DH in blue and his brother in a different color. In pics, she always put DH on the left (because he was born first). I can not tell them apart in their baby pics, but MIL & FIL can. They said that they could always tell them apart from the beginning. Good luck and congrats!

Re: Moms of Identical Twins...how do you tell them apart?

You will be able to, but maybe not right away. My SIL got bracelets for my identical twin nieces. At first they wore them on their ankles. I have also heard of people putting a certain color nail polish on one toe. It won't take long for you to tell them apart tho. Aside from the very early few weeks or maybe months I have always been able to tell my nieces apart and they live in CA. The rest of my family (aside from my bro and SIL)weren't as good at it.

I was worried too but once they were born I just knew.I thought about getting bracelets for them. You could always leave the hospital bracelets on for a while until you get used to them.
