Moms of older kids, do any of you have calling cards for your kids?
I'm referring to something that is the size and shape of a business card, something that would contain contact information for people who want to set up play dates or for people who may have your kid over. I'm not sure whether putting this information in print is a good thing or a bad thing. I would include ways to contact me or my husband and my son's allergy information on it. I find that I meet other moms and even though I am accustomed to giving business cards to people who want to keep in touch, it would be nice to have something else with the information I mentioned above. They have cute designs on Vistaprint, at Current.com and on e-bay. Has anyone here done this?

I don't. My children don't have allergies. If they did, I would consider it once they went on playdates.

Not yet. I still think DS is too young. He's not even a year yet. But maybe when he's a little older, this sounds like a cool idea to meet people.

I have babies but my Dad's wife was having a hard time meeting friends so she made up a card from Vistaprint with her likes and dislikes and contact info, kids ages etc. and would give it to people she thought she could be friends with She's a character!
Having a child that has food allergies I think its a great idea. I was just talking about this with my neighbor how I would have to give him a shirt that says Don't feed me! This neighborhood is like the 50's with the kids running around like Tom Sawyer eating blueberries and grapes from the Farmer's field-who lets anyone go over there and take what they want

Have you met other people who do this? I am wondering how common it is. My son will get his annual test again tomorrow and he may have outgrown his egg allergy anyway. I'm also thinking about this just in case he develops diabetes as my husband has juvenile diabetes.

There were some moms talking about getting them at a committee meeting at my DD's nursery school a month ago. I think they said that they just have name, contact info so that moms can set up playdates with other moms. I don't know how useful it is for something like our nursery school b.c they have a directory with everyone contact info but I think the moms say that they use them when they meet other parents at the playground or other children's place. It is a nice concept but I'm not sure I would get them - I think I might feel a bit strange giving someone a card.

When I first had Ava, I read this in a parenting magazine. Seems like a good idea to me!

Re: Moms of older kids, do any of you have calling cards for your kids?
I have a 6 1/2 year old and a 12 year old and have never seen this done nor have I heard of it. Maybe its a thing for younger kids???
In terms of keeping in touch/setting up play dates, once kids are in nursery school and later elementary school, class friendship lists are for that exact purpose.
Any time I have a new kid over, I always ask if there is anything they are allergic to or can't have. But, in my experience, any mother whose child has an allergy of any type, has always given me this information first.
My older daughter has a friend for seven years, whose insulin pump I have learned to punch her snacks into.
Although, its not a bad idea per se, I've just never seen it and wonder if anyone else has??
