Moms of one (especially those who will likely stay that way) or I guess anyone else with an opinion (about swingsets and such)
did you/areyou/willyou go the real deal swing set/activity set route?
I am debating about it. I like them. I think they are great. but $500 plus is a big chunk of change. is it worth it for an only? or is in an investment better suited to multiples?
I am having a tough time deciding.
TIA.

Jess, you have nieces and nephews and friends though.
I think it's a great investment either way.. $500 may seem like a big chunk because it's in one shot but if you calculate the YEARS of play Luce and other kids you have over will get out it, it will have paiid itself a million times over

#1 was an only child for a long time. We still got one and found it to be a great investment.

I was just talking about this to my mom. I am getting Kayla one for her birthday. I have so mANY cousins and friends with babies that it will be great for when they come over. I am looking at the Little Tykes playsets.

I only have 1 right now and I am the youngest of 3 but I remember playing on my set FOREVER by myself for the longest time. I loved that thing. I plan on having more children but even if I didn't I would buy her a set.

I would.. especially with an only child...you'll want a friends and such to come and play with DS.. sooo this is perfect..keeps em busy even if he's alone.

I've thought about it, but probably won't get one.
DS is the youngest in our family by many, many years. He will most likely be the only one using it 95% of the time. We also live close to two parks, so we just bring him there.

As an only child myself, I always hated when my mom wouldn't get me a toy or a game or a whatever because I was an only child. *I* didn't make the decision to be an only child so why should I be penalized for it? kwim?
So I say GET THE BOY A SWINGSET! Because he'll have fun by himself and he'll have fun with friends and he'll have fun with all your neices and nephews.

Yep. We will get one for the lad. We should probably buy a house first But yeah I kinda feel like the one upside to being an "only" is that you get to have all the coolest sh!t, kwim???

I may have an only child. To not get a swingset NEVER occured to me. I never once thought about the amt of use it might get. I dont think just b/c she may be an only means she should not get something that she will enjoy.

We are done with babies, but plan on upgradingour cheesy old owners metal one next year. This year, we just spent 3000 on the yard, so its not in budget. But I like you have neices and nephews who will enjoy it too.

Re: Moms of one (especially those who will likely stay that way) or I guess anyone else with an opinion (about swingsets and such)
Another vote for get the kind a lovely set. One of the perks of being an only child - lovely items to enjoy on your own
I justify my purchase b/c I will have 3, and likely 3 boys, climbing it all day, but I wouldn't not get one if I stopped at Ryan.
My little sister is essentially an only child (since she is 6 and we were long out of the house before she was adopted) and she has a jumbo trampoline here in NY and a swingset at their country house. It's helpful to my mom for her to have outdoor entertainment

I had oe child for 7 1/2 yrs before #2, IMO it was totally worth it. Especially once they start having friends over.

My son just turned five and we bought him one- whether it'll ever be put together is another story! It never occurred to me I shouldn't buy him one because he is an only. I figure he needs more things to do since he doesn't have a sibling to play with. Plus, it will make play dates more fun.

I thought that was one of the advantages of being an only child ?
You get the real deal, brand new, top of the line, version of toys.
Go for it!

Re: Moms of one (especially those who will likely stay that way) or I guess anyone else with an opinion (about swingsets and such)
we wanted to this year, but opted for a little playhouse thing and other toys for the yard;
1) b/c i dont want to have to push him on it continuously. I figured this may be better when he is older and can swing himself.
2) didnt want to invest the $$ this year as $$ is tight.

yeah, I didn't get this memo.
I am stingy with toys. but I do plan AWESOME trips.
peainthepod, I thought the same as you regarding swinging him back and forth. right now it would be more work for one of us...though I can see the advantages in the future.
thanks all...more to weigh. thanks!

I say get it also.
But, I think you could also wait a year for sure. Jack (almost 4) loves it now -- and so does Tyler -- but Tyler will be more independent next year and I think that will make a big difference.

We got one for Jack before Ryan came along. LOVE it and it really is well worth it. Makes playdates fun!!
A hint....if you can find one on craiglist, grab it. That's what we did. (Well got it from a friend) There's nothing a power-washer can't get out of those Step 2 plastic ones. Also, we ordered brand new hardware for it from Step 2 for like $25.
