Moms of one (especially those who will likely stay that way) or I guess anyone else with an opinion (about swingsets and such)

We are not the norm, but we didn't get one for our kids. We live 2 blocks from our local park playground, we just walk over there instead.

If we didn't live so close to a playground I'd probably have thought more about it.

Our DD is an only. We don't plan to get one, but it's more to do with the size and condition of our yard. But we also live near several terrific parks and DD loves to go to the park.

I was an only child and I had one.

We're getting a basic plastic one for DS now and eventually, we'll upgrade to a larger one once he gets older.

I have mixed feelings. It is a lot of money - and I think you have to ask how much will you use it? I was set that we weren't going to spend the money b.c we have a nice playground 3.5 blocks away. BUT I wanted to get something (a lessor set) maybe next year since it wasn't an option now. Then my parents wanted to do something big for the girls so they surprised us and said they were giving us one. They insisted we get a good one that the girls will have for a long time.

So my feeling is if you think you will use it a lot, get your money's worth so to speak I would go for a good set - BUT if you are out a lot and just would like to have something I would go for a smaller less expensive set or nothing.

We just bought a HUGE playset from Creative Playthings and had it installed today actually! Chat Icon It was about $1700 + tax but to us, it was worth every penny. DS can have friends over and it's just a great place for him to play in the backyard. I had no issues getting it knowing he will be the only child. We opted for the 3 swings instead of the standard 4, that's the only difference.

I would.. especially with an only child...you'll want a friends and such to come and play with DS.. sooo this is perfect..keeps em busy even if he's alone.

this is my way of thinking too. ESPECIALLY with an only its a great investment.

Yes, get him a swingset. A swingset is not something that need to be played with 2+

It's perfect actually for 1 kid or more than 1 kid. Either way!

I also agree with those that say do it!!

DS has had his Little Tykes Swing Set since he was 1....I got it on Craigs List for a good deal and am now going to sell it since we just upgraded to a larger wooden one from TRU.

Except for the swing and having to push him on that, he plays NON STOP in the nice weather on it all by himself!
