moms of school aged kids
...that take the bus.
Do you tip the bus driver, and if so... how much?
I always tip the morning bus driver b/c I see him, know him and LOVE HIM.
He's a great guy who always takes his time making sure all the kids are in their seats... waits for us if any of us are running late... Informs us of any 'incidents' or if our kids need a 'talking to...'
Just an all around GREAT guy. I tipped him $20.00 last year, I think...
the afternoon bus driver, I never see... as my son is picked up by a babysitter. This person seems to be changing too b/c I don't ever recognize them any time I DO get a chance to pick my son up. Plus, this afternoon bus driver has the kids after a full day of school and are probably BOUNCING OFF THE WALLS. However... my son has had some problems on the afternoon bus and it seems the bus driver does nothing to remedy the situation, or approach anyone about it, whereas the morning bus driver does. With that said, the bus drivers' jobs AREN'T to control the kids... they're just there to get them from point a to point B in one piece... (sadly... but that's just how it is)
Should I tip the driver I don't know?
Also- is 10.00 too little? I mean, it's 10 dollars more than NOTHING...
I have to get my son's teacher a gift (probably a 25.00 gift card) but with the tipping, it's getting expensive...
(life is SO on a budget right now...) but I appreciate these people.. you know?

Re: moms of school aged kids
i am trying to figure out the same thing. my stepdaughter takes the bus, has the same driver usually, but occasionally the afternoon its someone different, so i am going to tip the one i see most, the morning driver. i was thinking about the same amount like $10 or so for him, and was thinking i'll pick up a dunkin donuts or starbucks gift card rather than handing him cash, i dunno i think it will look nicer, but maybe i am wrong! it really gets expensive with gifts for the school aged kids, they usually take a collection for my stepson's class, which makes it a lil more affordable. but i havent heard anything, so i dont know what to do with that one, there are like two aides and an assistant teacher plus his teacher(inclusion class) i dont want to spend a fortune on so many individual gifts, so i am stuck on this one.

Wow.. I have NEVER tipped the driver. He's a cranky old coot.. but we like him. I never even THOUGHT to give him any money at all. We gave him a plate of fresh baked cookies and some homemade fudge for Christmas the last 3 years.. but we've never even thought about $$.
I feel so cheap!

DON'T!!!! I just didn't know the *norm*
to be honest, the norm in queens isn't even to tip (I think)
but I don't know... the morning guy does SO MUCH for us... I honestly feel so safe that he is driving my son to school.. he often sends the kids home with snacks too... Randomly Aidan will have a bag of Fritos in his bag etc etc. I just figure, hey- what's a better gift than money... you know?

thankfully they have a collection!! DS only has ONE teacher. I always give his teachers a willow tree ornament for Christmas (unless they aren't christian) and a gift card of some sort for the end of the year...
I've been lucky to like all of my son's teachers so far... Don't know what I'd do if I get one I don't like so much..

I don't have a school aged child, but i've never heard of tipping the bus driver either. I know sometimes when I was younger, 1 or 2 kids would give a canister of cookies or something, but that was rare.

I know this world has become TIP crazy... I see tip jars everywhere now... Dunkin Donuts, Delis... I just always figured with the $ I would have spent on cookies or something, I could it to him to do whatever he wants with it... you know?

Re: moms of school aged kids
I do tip the driver. My neighbor's and I each contribute $10 a family for both xmas and the end of the year. We just give it to her in a card.

Ditto. I don't tip anyone my son encounters in a school day, and it never crossed my mind to do so. I usually send in thank you cards to the teachers, but the bus driver doesn't really go above and beyond IMO.

Re: moms of school aged kids
I give my daughter's mini bus driver a gift at the end of the year......She goes above and beyond and I feel she deserves it.
Usually it's just a $25 gift card.....I give the matron $10...

Re: moms of school aged kids
I gave the driver a $10 DD gc and 5 scratch-offs for Christmas and will do the same next week (my son is in K and tipping is def the norm where I am).
I'm giving the teacher a $50 gc to I don't know where. I know she likes to read, so I was thinking B&N, but I don't want her to spend it on "school" stuff.
