Moms of two or more.... labor and delivery experience....
So I am due for DC #2 in 16 days and my anxiety is getting the best of me!!! I feel like the waiting and anticipation is so much worse this time because I sort of know what to expect, in terms of pain, but at the same time I have no idea what to expect!! I gave birth early at 38.5 weeks...My 1st labor was a total of 9 hours... with my water breaking at 3:30am... and giving birth 3 hours later. So for a 1st time, I went fairly quickly. I also got to the hospital at 9 and a half centimeters and was NOT able to get an epidural, thus spent 80 mins in torture pushing. I guess, what I'm looking for is your experience as far as your 2nd delivery and did it go faster? did you deliver early? on time? late? was it easier or more difficult? was your pushing shorter? Anything you have to offer that could help ease my anxiety would be great!

Re: Moms of two or more.... labor and delivery experience....
I was induced with both kids, but it definitely went quicker the 2nd time around. I was in labor with DD for 8 hours and pushed for 2 hours. With DS I was in labor for 6 hours and pushed for 5 minutes!!!

This gives me hope!
I am in the same situation as you! I had a nightmarish birth experience with DS... 25 hours of labor with 6 hours of pushing (it was horrible). Then I had a post-delivery hemorrage and they booked an emergency OR because they thought they were going to have to open me up and / or do a hysterectomy to make the bleeding stop? Needless to say, I am PETRIFIED of giving birth again, and due in September :-O My Dr has promised that it will be easier this time around, and that they will give me drugs via IV so I don't hemorrage again. I am still so scared though! Thanks for posting.

Re: Moms of two or more.... labor and delivery experience....
Delivery with DD#1: pushed for hours and doc claimed I wasn't pushing right and my epi was turned off.
Delivery with DS#2: pushed less than a half an hour and the epi worked beautifully, nurse and doc were a dream! I think your body remembers what it's supposed to do, so that makes it easier.
Good Luck to you!
ps: I was dilated to 4cm when I got to the hospital for DS #2, no pain! However, with DD #1 I remember excruciating pain while working to 4cm...weird!

I'm curious to know as well. My first I was in labor for 2 1/2 hours and pushed for prob 20 mins...I'm terrified that I'm going to have my 2nd in the car on the way to the hospital

Re: Moms of two or more.... labor and delivery experience....
I was induced with my 1st, and went FAST. From the time they broke my water, until the time I was holding DD was 5.5 hours.
My OB told me based on that, IF I go into labor on my own this time, I need to get to the hospital ASAP because chances are, I'll go faster the 2nd time around.

Neither of my labors was fast, but #2 was faster (I had "prolonged" labor with #1 so anything would have been faster than that!).

Re: Moms of two or more.... labor and delivery experience....
OK, not to hijack, but....
If you had a really quick L&D the first time, was you rsecond even quicker?
I went to the hospital with no contractions at 8AM, was put on pitocin, got my epi around 1:00 and DS was born 50 minutes later.....
My cousin said I should just circle the hospital my last month, as DS was also 17 days early!!!!!
Advice?

Re: Moms of two or more.... labor and delivery experience....
I was induced both times. For the first delivery, I pushed for 1.5 hours but for the second delivery I only pushed for 30 minutes. It was much better than I had expected.
Wishing you lots of luck! Keep those positive thought flowing!!!

Re: Moms of two or more.... labor and delivery experience....
My labor was insanely quick the second time around!
Baby #1 was 39 hours from first real contraction until delivery. I pushed for maybe 45 mins or so?
Baby #2 was born within 1 1/2 hours of getting to the hospital. I labored a grand total of 2 1/2 hours and was not able to get an epidural
By the time the anesthesiologist came to give me an epi, I felt the urge to push. It only took 4 pushes and she was out!
By the way, I asked the same question in an older thread. Here are some of the responses.

Re: Moms of two or more.... labor and delivery experience....
DC#1: DS was a week late. my 1st labor was a breeze, so easy. Got an epi, labored for 4 or 5 hours, and pushed him out in around 15 min. Needed a major episiotomy-not fun DC#2: my DD came 10 days before my due date, I got to the hospital in time to get the epi also, but I had a rough labor this time around with DD. Very sick, throwing up, nausious, heartburn, dont know if it was my morning sickness or a reaction to the epidural. Delivery wasnt bad either, she came so fast they couldnt turn the epi off in time so I couldnt feel myself push, but still managed to push her out in 10 min, had another episiotmy, but much less severe and so many less stitches thank god

Re: Moms of two or more.... labor and delivery experience....
I was induced for both, about 5-6 days early. Labor time was about the same, but pushing the second time was MUCH faster. I pushed for 1 hr with DD, who was 7lbs. I only pushed for 15 min with DS, who was over 9lbs....go figure!

Re: Moms of two or more.... labor and delivery experience....
My first delivery was a long drawn out 26 hr process. I was 9 days late, got pitocin, epidural and pushed for 2 hrs. I hated it.
My 2nd was much easier in some ways. 3 hrs total and NO epidural...i was 9 cm when I got to the hospital!!!
I think the 2nd for you will be easier/quciker.

Re: Moms of two or more.... labor and delivery experience....
With DS I pushed for almost 2 hours.
With DD, I pushed for MAYBE 10 minutes and she popped right out!
My L&D experience with DD-#2- was SO much easier.... even though before I had her I thought my experience with DS was good!

Re: Moms of two or more.... labor and delivery experience....
First delivery was at 34.5 weeks...total time 14 hours, water broke during the first hour. I showed up at the hospital 5cm at hour 8. Pushed for about 1.5 hours.
Second delivery at 39 weeks - MUCH FASTER. Contractions started & within an hour, they were 5 minutes apart. Showed up the hospital about 1.5 hours at 2:20am, at 10 cms. She was born at 2:27am. I only did a 1/2 push. She was born in caul (amniotic sac in tact)
There really was no anxiety about the 2nd time since I'd been through it before. I really think I just knew I had to get to the hospital. We were anticipating a shorter labor for the second delivery but were guessing maybe 6-7 hours so we both thought we had plenty of time to get to the hospital. I couldn't explain why but after the first hour of laboring at home, I said "I want to go to the hospital right now. Now", got up, had the car keys in my hand & was prepared to leave without DH.
With the second pregnancy, I experienced a lot more Braxton Hicks and more cramping at the end. My theory is that my body was prepped for labor having been through it before & all the pre-contractions attributed to a shorter labor.
If you're concerned about delivering outside the hospital, go to L&D with your first contractions. We spent about 20 minutes trying to figure out whether they were "real" contractions.

Re: Moms of two or more.... labor and delivery experience....
baby #1: Born 2 days before due date. 9 hours of labor 2 hours of pushing
baby#2: Born 2 days after due date 3 hours of labor(from first cramp till she was in my arms), made it to the hospital right before she came. maybe 3-5 minutes of pushing
baby#3: born 6 days after my due date 11 hours of labor 1 minutes of pushing, they let me wait at 10 cm for about and hour before making me push, she slid right out

Re: Moms of two or more.... labor and delivery experience....
DD #1 - I was in labor total for about 9 hours and I had alot of pain medication.
DD #2 - my water broke at 12:30 am and I had her at 1:25 am!! It was a miracle she was born at the hospital and not in our car!!!! Moral of the story - go to the hospital right away if your water breaks with #2!!!!

Re: Moms of two or more.... labor and delivery experience....
I have no experience to offer but I definitely hear ya. I just had my first and it was a TERRIBLE labor and delivery with excruciating pain- I mean AGONY- and I keep thinking that when I get pregs again I will be TERRIFIED and have anxiety the entire 9 months about going through it again. I guess you should remember that ALL pregnancies are different and one bad experience does not mean another one is coming!
