moms of two or more(labor question)

I am curious, was your labor similar for the second baby as it was for the first... not the pain or the time it took but the other symptoms... for example, i was vomitting the entire labor and delivery (sorry tmi) so am i going to go through that again??

just trying to mentally prepare myself, and forwarm my new ob

Re: moms of two or more(labor question)

With my first, DD, it was fairly quick and easy - woke up with contractions 5 minutes apart, and had a quick labor and delivery with an EPI however I still was able to feel.

With my second, DS, my water broke and the EPI worked a lot better this time around and I didn't even know if I was pushing and never even felt the urge to push. I did feel really dizzy and queasy afterwards where with DD I didn't.

Both were less than 10 minutes of pushing though and healing was SO much easier the 2nd time around!

What I didn't know until after the fact that the contractions of your uterus AFTER giving birth a 2nd time are a LOT worse than the first time. I felt like I was in labor all over again!Chat Icon

Mine were completely different. With my first, I had a clue because I lost my mucus plug and eventually started having back labor. With my second, my water broke and the contractions came on quick and hard. I didn't have contractions that were 5 mins apart for an hour. Once my water broke, they were immediately 2-3 mins apart lasting over a minute. My labor was so quick with baby #2 that I didn't really feel much other than the pain of the contractions. Pushing was a lot easier the second time. 4 pushes and DD was out!

Re: moms of two or more(labor question)

this is all good.... believe it or not the one thing i am cringing about with going into labor is the horrible heartburn i had and the constant vomitting... i really started to wonder where the stuff was coming from because i was in labor for 22 hours and somehow things still found its way out of my system... maybe this time i will atleast avoid that

mine were pretty similar. One longer than the other, and I had pitocin/epi with #1 and no drugs with #2, but the actual symptoms were the same (I didn't have heartburn or vomiting with either).

Re: moms of two or more(labor question)

COMPLETELY different!

Baby#1:
I went into labor at 7 pm. I got to the hospital at 3 cm and had to walk for 2 hours to get to a 4 so I could be admitted to the hospital. I got the epi and they broke my water and sat around for hours. I was in labor for 12 hours with 2 hours of pushing.

baby#2:
I woke up at 4 am with cramps, new it was the beginning and I didn't want to have to walk around the hospital again(like baby#1) so I got into my tub at home. I stayed there until the pain was unbearable. Probably around an hour. Then I had to crawl to the car I was in so much pain(yes it took me about 45 minutes to make it to the car because the contractions were s close together and SOOOO painful). The hospital was 30 minutes away. We got there around 6:15-6:30 am. They wanted a urine sample and I told them there was no way I could since my contractions were about 1 minute apart. They checked me and I was already 9-10 cm dilated ans my water broke on the nurse when she was checkingChat Icon. Kaitee was born about 10 minutes after that, drug free because she came so fast, the doctor barely made it into the room to catch her. I was in labor for 3 hours (from first cramp until she was in my arms) with MAYBE 5 minutes of pushing.

baby#3:
I felt cramps at 2 am and woke up DH. Since my last labor was so fast (and I REALLY wanted the epi this time, drug free isn't for me) we hauled a$$ to the hospital. I was at 3 cm but since my last labor went so fast they admitted me and got me the epi. I was in labor for 9 hours with about 2 minutes of pushing.

They only thing that was the same was my water didn't break until they broke it for me. I did vomit with all 3.
