what are your ped's directions (if any) on cleaning as they get older...
I keep hearing conflicting directions

No one should retract it except your son. No forced retraction or gently tugging back on it, just leave it alone.
Once its retractable, just pull back, rinse, replace. Very simple.

my inlaws are always telling me that I am doing it wrong and that I will regret listening to the dr.
if you knew them, you would find that statement as funny as I do.
treat it like a finger. wash it, never pull back. I also was told to every now and then take notice of his pee stream to make sure it comes out in a steady flow.
Dr told me if it comes time for kindergarden and hasn't retracted yet, then we can talk about it then. only person who should be pulling and tugging is DS
