moms of young toddlers, do you...
moms of young toddlers, do you take your dc out to restaurants a lot? we used to but now josh just does NOT want to sit down for more than a few minutes (even with toys). he wants to walk around, touch everything and go up to everyone.
any tips on making this easier or do i have to just wait out this phase?
tia!

Have you tried a DVD player? That really has helped us. I forgot it when we went out last weekend and it was a nightmare.

Lucas is no longer permitted to be a beast in the restaurant so we have reduced the number of outings we go on.
He's behaving exactly how you described so we try to stick to places where his drama is sort of fadded out by what is going on around him. That and I practically empty my bag to entertain him...let him eat whatever we have (thank God for the bread basket) and drink from a straw.

DD is 2 now and so much better at restaurants but when she was younger the only thing that worked was a DVD player... I tried everything else and she would just freak... It gets better as they get older (at least for us)...

DS has always been great when we've gone out. I always make sure to bring him toys to play with, and he sits the whole time. I've been lucky so far

DS is great at restaurants, and I think it because we always bring our own booster and he doesn't have to sit in a highchair.
I don't really like the DVD player idea, IMO, I don't have a problem for planes, long car trips, etc., but I kind of think DC should learn to particpate or not get to go at all. Again, JMHO.

Re: moms of young toddlers, do you...
we did not for awhile...maybe 13 months we hit a wall.
now we do go out, but only for mexican or somewhere with a salad bar.
he LOVES mexican and will sit for entire meal.
eta: i have also learned to let leo go in and order while josh and I walk around, walk outside, look at pictures on the wall...waste as much waiting time as possible.

We don't take DD out to eat. When we do, it's just a nightmare. None of us enjoy the meal so why bother. DD is 20 months now.

Yes, we do... he is starting to get used to it - but having snacks and his cars help!

We usually go out with other couples who have kids, so we all can take turns walking with the kids around the restaurant or keeping the kids entertained.

We do, but I have to say DS is awesome in the highchair. He is pretty good as long as we feed him when we are eating, and talk to him so he feels included.

Re: moms of young toddlers, do you...
It's hit or miss with Emma. Sometimes she is good, most recently she isn't. Lots of snacks help and many walks around the restaurant! It's honestly not really an enjoyable experience, I feel rushed to eat before she has a meltdown.
It never occurred to me to bring a DVD player to a restaurant. Sort of defeats the purpose of going out I guess. But whatever works I suppose!
