Moms that feed their babies pancakes/waffles...
...which brand do you use? Or do you make homemade? If homemade, would you mind sharing your recipe? I just bought Alex the Eggo "whole wheat" pancakes thinking they were so good for her, but after reading the ingredients on the back, the ingredients really aren't so hot after all (ENRICHED wheat flour, sugar as the third ingredient...). I don't want to sound obsessive, but I just want to try & give her the best, you know? (Sorry, I watched Oprah last week-LOL!) TIA for any info you can give.

Wow, I guess I can't really help. I use the Eggo whole wheat kind and thought they were fine. I never bothered to read the label

If I'm feeling ambitious I use the recipe on the side of the Bisquick box.
eta. Have you tried Trader Joes?

I'm sure they are TOTALLY fine, but you know how it is after you watch an Oprah show.

Re: Moms that feed their babies pancakes/waffles...
I have made some homemade (pancakes) and just froze them in ziploc bags. It's easy becuase then I can throw the ziploc into her lunchbox that goes to the babysitters and the babysitter can just toast it up and give it to her for breakfast. So we always have them ready to go.
I have also used Eggo french toast sticks and eggo mini-waffles. I didn't reall ythink about all of the ingredients. To be honest I'm not a worryer with that stuff -- maybe I should be --- but she is a picky eater so I figure if she likes it then so be it!

She had that famous heart surgeon on- Dr. Oz. They were pretty much talking about general nutrition, reading labels and stuff like that. I'm normally not a worryer either, but I just though I could maybe get some ideas from you ladies on some "healthy alternatives" perhaps? I know some Mommies on here go organic, etc...

Re: Moms that feed their babies pancakes/waffles...
I use the Aunt Jemima pancake mix and freeze the extras. They have an alternative to make waffles too on the box.
I have a pancake/waffle recipe in my betty crocker cookbook if you want that.
I also give her french toast sticks, and we use the Eggo brand waffles for a quick fix.

Re: Moms that feed their babies pancakes/waffles...
Eggo everything over here - buttermilk - not wheat. French toast sticks, pancakes, cinnimon rolls. I'm sure when he's a little older - like 4,5,6 I'll worry more about nutrition. Now it's just giving him food he likes and getting his belly full. I'm not too worried about clogging his arteries or anything right now

Re: Moms that feed their babies pancakes/waffles...
I know they have organic/vegan mixes at Whole Foods. I haven't fed pancakes or waffles to Alex just yet for that exact reason, but my vegan brother is in town this weekend and I was going to head over to whole foods to pick up a pancake mix I can use for him, so I'll let you know how it goes... you can also order them online - Pancea is a good website - I've ordered from them.

Re: Moms that feed their babies pancakes/waffles...
I buy the brand Van's, in the frozen organic section. There is another one too but the name escapes me right now.
In a pinch, I'll get Eggo Whole wheat or make my own from the Aunt Jemima box. Wouldn't mind finding a good whole wheat recipe though since I have a whole bag of Whole Wheat flour from a bread recipe I made!
I do worry about cholesterol and clogged arteries why start clogging them now if he likes whole grain foods?
ETS: Kashi! I think thats the other brand!

Re: Moms that feed their babies pancakes/waffles...
I give her Ian's French Toast sticks right now. I haven't actually read throguh the ingredients but usually Ian's products are relatively healthy. What about Kashi waffles? For homemade we have whole grain pancake mix but she usually will eat those if we make them for ourselves.

That's weird - when my pediatrician talked to us about giving Alex table foods, he made a point to tell us to start introducing whole wheat products early on. The recommended guideline is that half of their daily carbs should be whole wheat products and half should be white... too many whole wheat products for a baby can wreak havoc on their little system

We use the Eggo mini waffles, or lego ones and for a treat the cinnamon toast ones. Pancakes I make from scratch with a bisquick mix.

My Ped never put a restriction on whole wheat once on table foods. Maybe because there is no history of allergies to that or anything else. Aidan started on whole wheat bread, not white, Whole grain cereals, etc.

I buy organic wholeweat Pancake mix by, I believe, Arrowhead farms. It is very easy to mix together and throw on the skillet. Benjamin LOVES them!
