Do you make everything from soup to nuts or just certain things like just veggies or just fruit? what about meat/poultry? do you make enough for the week or a months supply of food?
i am thinking about making my own baby food. not sure where to start or if i am getting in over my head.

I didn't do her fruits.... I thought that it would be more cost efficient and give her more variety if I bought her the jars.
I did do her veggies and meats though.
I went with the Wholesome Baby Food website, and then as soon as I got the jist of it all.... I just started winging it on my own. It's so very easy...
And by the time you get them through all the initial foods to see if there are any allergy reactions or not.... You can start taking the dinners that you guys are eating and mash/blend those, and feed them to the baby as well!

Re: moms that make their own baby food- any advice?
i make all of my dd's food so far, and ill continue it until she gets old enough to eat what we're eating..
basically, i buy all organic fruits and veggies, depending on the size of the fruit i get ALOT more for my money then i would if i bought jarred NOT organic baby food..2 lg red delicious apples gets me 8-10 servings, which costs me 2 bux or so, and would normally be 8-11 depending on if i bought organic jarred or not..
i boil bake or steam my fruit or veggie depending on what it is, i then puree it with my magic bullet (which i LOVE) and then i freeze it in ice trays, when its frozen i transfer it to ziplock bags in lil cubes, and just defrost as i need them..i started giving her 1 cube per serving, but shes eating 2 now..(thats why i get 8-10 feedings not 16-20)
when she eats chicken, i will boil it, and puree it the same way..
i think its so much better, i was ASTONISHED to see the difference in what the food actually looks like, nothing added to it...i use the site www.homegrownbaby.com
its very informative, FM if you have any questions!!

I used to make... apples pears sweet potatoes acorn squash butternut squash carrots green beans
I tried meat but it never really worked well for us so I gave up on the 3rd try.
I think i'm forgetting some fruits and veggies.

Re: moms that make their own baby food- any advice?
I have been doing it for 3 weeks now and love it!!!!! Super easy and I wish I did it with my DS.
I bought the Beaba Babycook from BBB and love it!!!!!!!
I just buy the fruit, peel it, cut it up, pour a little bit of water in the reserve of the babycook. Then you put all the fruit in the steamer basket. It shuts off automatically when it is done.
Then you take the steamer basket out and put the food back in and puree. And you are all done.
I love that the Beaba Cook does it all in one container. This way I only have one thing to wash and use.
I bought about 10 of the Baby Cubes from BBB because they work better for me then using ice cube trays. I just put the containers in the door of the fridge.
So far I have done pears, bananas, plums, and apples. I have about a months supply for 2x a day right now.
Def do it. It is soo easy and is way cheaper. I buy the fruit at Costco so I can make a bunch at a time.
After I am done with one, I take out another for the next day.
The only thing I will not make is carrots because it scares the heck out of me with the nitrates. I bought Gerber Organic for that.
Also when I go out I just put a container from the freezer in a bowl with a cover. By the time I need it, it is defrosted.
The possibilities are endless.
I know make a lot extra of the apples because my 3 yr old loves it.
Here is a very helpful website:
