Moms who feed their families organic foods
I'm trying to jump on the organic ban- wagon after watching food Inc (inspired by a post a few wks ago). Please help me get started...
1. Where do you buy your meats? I went to trader joes in Hewlet but didn't find meats labeled "grass fed"
2. Which is more economical whole foods or trader joes?
3. Have you come across organic foods at bjs?
4. Is stop and shops "natures promise" organic?
5. Any helpful tips?
Thank you!

I don't do it exclusively, but I have a local farm by me Makinajian
It's probably too far for you, but maybe there is something like that closer to you?

By law, all poultry and pork is hormone & antibiotic free, so generally I buy that in the supermarket. Beef I buy only on sale.
2. Which is more economical whole foods or trader joes?
Depends. Whole Foods just opened at a convenient location for me. I found a few products so far that are less expensive at Trader Joe's than Whole Foods, but Whole Foods has sales and coupons.
3. Have you come across organic foods at bjs? Yes. I buy milk at $2.99 1/2 gallon compared to $3.49-$5.49 elsewhere. Costco sells organic peanut butter and organic instant oatmeal. 4. Is stop and shops "natures promise" organic? Some products are organic, others are all natural - you have to check the label. Waldbaums and Pathmark have Greenway as their organic brand. I buy their strawberry preserves for PB&J, and assorted other products to have on hand. 5. Any helpful tips? Start small because it can be easily overwhelming to all of a sudden just buy organic. Write down prices of staples so you have it on hand to compare when shopping at different stores. Beware that different varieties of things may have different prices (like umm, something that is strawberry might be less expensive than the same brand item in cherry). Read labels everytime you shop, as products change over time.
HTH!!
Thank you!
