Moms who have two kids and had a csection

When were you able to really pick up your first DC?

I am trying to figure out coverage for the next few weeks because the doctor said I can't pick up Jack for 4-6 weeks.

Is this really true? Obviously I don't want to go busting open any stitches or anything but there are a few days where I won't have help and it will be impossible for me not to pick him up.

Really? This makes me feel so much better. I'm completely freaking out about it - and I have no choice but to get him in/out of the carseat for school on certain days.

I hate not being able to lift him when he wants to be picked up.

probably within the week-i wouldn't recommend that though. DD is not really heavy though. i had no choice-i was on my own fairly quick. i had to put her in the car (SUV) i even drove the next day i was home Chat Icon but anyway....i have a hard time "being down" and pushed everything. luckily i didn't pay for it!

Re: Moms who have two kids and had a csection

I am really starting to get Ava used to not being picked up now because I'll be having another c-section and she's already 45lbsChat Icon I've been teaching her to climb into my SUV and get into her carseat on her own and what not. She's doing well. I just make sure to hug her a lot more, although she still wants to be held a lot at 3yo. I wish I had advice, sorry for hijacking with my fears!

Re: Moms who have two kids and had a csection

Honestly, it would have been impossible not to. I did the best I could with bending down and letting him come to me blahblahblah but by the time DH went back to work (1.5w later) I had to do it, at least sometimes. I mean, the kid had to get in and out of the booster seat, the car, etc.

I think I lifted Bry after about 2 or 3 weeks. He's solid!
After a while, I didn't have a choice.
I just needed to lift him in the car & out for school. Rest of the time, he did everything on his own with some assistance from me.

I didn't want to chance it either with Logan who was 30 lbs when Landon was born. He learned to get around with just holding my hand for support.

Re: Moms who have two kids and had a csection

I really don't remember, but my DDs are 27 months apart and it wasn't a problem. I tried to teach my older one to climb in and out of the car (SUV) and her chair etc. She got pretty good at it and I never had any issues. By that age they can pretty much figure out what you need them to do with a little guidance.

I am 10 post c section and I lifted Jacob up onto his bed a few days ago. I am really not sure when we can actually lift but I am trying not to lift him until my next appointment 3 weeks from now.

Re: Moms who have two kids and had a csection

I had c-sections with both.. I didn't pick Robbie up all that much for a while because he was pretty heavy.. but I DID sit and cuddle him. He was old enough that he could climb up into my lap.Chat Icon

It was so long ago that I can't remember at what point I started to actually physically lift him up.. but I do know that it was before the doctor recommended becuase both my mom and Rob were FREAKING OUT.Chat Icon

they tell you NOT to, but i picked up DS at the hospital day 2 is when he came to visit me. he was about 28lbs at the time... it wasnt for very long, but he wanted to be picked up by me and i did... when i got home the next day, i limited the amount of time i picked him up but i did

you do what you can.. your body will know your limits

Re: Moms who have two kids and had a csection

I think it's impossible not to pick up your DC, especially being a toddler. But, I will say that I overdid it and as a result, was very swollen and the incision was very irritated. I had to be put on antibiotics and more pain medication. Just try not to overdo it. I know it's easier said than done.

Re: Moms who have two kids and had a csection

I waited until 5 weeks - I "could" have done it sooner but my OB was very adamant that I couldn't do it before 6 weeks - but that was when I lost my help so I had no choice. DD was only 26 lbs at the time though. My OB this time was much stricter with his rules than my OB was the 1st time around.

Etd to add he said he was less worried about the external stitches as the internal ones that you might not realize have torn.

Re: Moms who have two kids and had a csection

Wow, great thread. I had no idea that I wouldn't be able to pick up my DD that long! She wll be 21 months when the baby is born so I am sure I will need to pick her up sooner than 4 weeks.
