Moms with babies who have reflux
How did you know your baby had reflux?
How was t diagnosed?
What treatment were you given?
DD has excessive gas, hiccups 2-3 times/day and is crying all the time unless shes held. The last week she'll drink 1-2oz of formula then throws her head back and starts crying. she appears to be hungry but screams when drinking the bottle. BUT she's fine when shes nursng. Does that sound like it could be reflux?

Re: Moms with babies who have reflux
G had reflux, some of those symptoms and some others..she was very gassy, would only sleep being held or on an incline and was clearing her throat in her sleep every 10 seconds ...those were some of her symptoms, but your baby sounds like she could have reflux with the symptoms you explained..I would def take her to the ped and have them check her out..G has been on baby AXID since she was maybe 6 weeks old and it solved the problem almost immediately...Good luck and I hope baby feels better soon

Re: Moms with babies who have reflux
My identical twins were diagnosed with reflux while in the NICU. They were not put on med there. When we got home they had the same symptoms you were describing. I demanded for them to be put on meds (I can be a bit pushy). They are on pepsid. It took 3 weeks for it to kick in.

Re: Moms with babies who have reflux
Usually they go to thickened formula such as Enfamil AR and a medication like Zantac
Diagnosis can be anywhere from poor wt gain, excessive spit up, crying

Re: Moms with babies who have reflux
DS had silent reflux (didn't spit up) and couldn't drink more than 1 - 2 oz at a time so he ate around the clock. He screamed constantly. Wet burps. Breath smelled like vomit. Arched his back. Hiccuped alot. Someone said stinky gas was one, which he had - but not sure if that's really a sign of reflux.
My ped and GI didn't really think he had it because he gained weight (most don't because they spit up and can't eat alot.) But I KNEW something was wrong. We tried pepcid, zantac, etc. and they didn't help. The GI gave him prevacid and it worked like a charm. I had the happiest baby after that. At that point she was convinced he had silent reflux. Sometimes you just have to go with your gut.

Re: Moms with babies who have reflux
She would cry and complain every time she burped and make really ugly faces. Then the spit-up increased and became more frequent. She was very gassy and would cry during feedings. She never had blood in her stool that would signify a cow's milk allergy. She was put on Nutramigen so it would be gentler on her stomach. We have not gone the GI route yet since she was so young and seems to be outgrowing it. She has been on zantac to neutralize the acid.

Re: Moms with babies who have reflux
My DS also had silent reflux and was miserable until we finally got a diagnosis when he was six weeks old. Like the above poster, our ped did not think it was refux as he also gained weight. Many babies with silent reflux drink a lot of milk as it soothes their enflamed esophagus.
DS arched his back, spit the bottle out in pain, did not sleep well-up every hour, hiccuped frequently, cried and was just in discomfort all day, everyday. It was simply awful.
I knew something was wrong and sought help from a GI. My poor little guy finally had relief with Zantac and Elecare. (highly recommend Dr. Gold in Babylon if you need a GI)
If you think your LO is refluxing, see a GI. They are the experts and best able to diagnose and treat.
