moms with big babies?

so i take dd out ALOT with me. whenever i have things to do she just goes with me i never hold back because shes around. anyway i know shes a BIG baby! she will be 5 months old on 12/3 and is currently 17lbs 8 oz (as of lastnight) and at her 4 month visit a few weeks ago was 26 inches already. shes very alert and responds to anyone who will talk to her. but i've been getting alot of strangers saying "wow shes HUGE" "what do you feed her" "chunky monkey" "wow look at the size of her" "its amazing you have such a LARGE baby and your so small" "wow she must eat ALOT" "wow she looks like a watermelon" <~ thats my personal favorite. like the poor kids a freak of nature. i dont really mind it now. but im worried about when she gets a little older and can understand that people are calling her LARGE! i always hated when people pointed out how short i was or how small i am. yes people im fully aware kind of thing!

i just wish somedays i had a snappy comment to say back... so moms whats your comebacks?

I have a onesie that says "Mine's baby fat - what's your excuse?"Chat Icon I know...not really helpful.
I have a chunky monkey too and get the same comments...but it really doesn't bother me. Chubby babies are toooo cute and everyone loves them! So many chubby babies thin out anyway!

Re: moms with big babies?

I have a big guy on my hands as well. He's 10 weeks and is 25 inches and 13.3 pounds. Most people think he's a LOT older than he is and don't hesitate to tell me that. I just smile and say "Yeah, he's a big ball of love". Chat Icon

I'm sure your DD will even out once she starts crawling/cruising/walking. Chat Icon Just take heart in knowing that she's healthy and well cared-for. As long as YOU know that, everyone else can go suck it. Chat Icon

It's pretty likely that she'll slim down as she gets older. My DD was and still is large for her age- she had chubby thighs and 8 chins. At 2 years 8 months she is close to growing out of 4T sizes. Though she found an old pair of 2T pjs that she insisted on wearing- they were wayyy too short but she was thin enough to fit into them.

I got all those comments too, when she was younger. People don't think sometimes- I was never really offended but I remember, too, thinking that I was glad that she didn't understand what people were saying.

Re: moms with big babies?

Logan is huge too, but not one person has said anything about it. Stupid boy/girl double standard, i guess.

Tell them you were a huge baby, but you came out ok!

he was 13lbs at 8weeks, now 18/19lbs at 16wks.

Ignore them! DS has always been a big baby. Now that he is cruising he is thinning out a bit. People always had comments on his fat rolls in his legs, his wrist bracelets, big round face....People have always thought that he was older. I have just learned to ignore these people. I LOVE a chubby baby!!! SOOO cute!!!Chat Icon

I call Ryan my chunky monkey too. He is 3 1/2 months old and 14 lbs. Whenever someone says something about him being chunky, my DH who has a bit of a belly always says, well he takes after Daddy... just to shut people up.

Chat Icon My SIL just asked me, well DS, if mommy is tying string around your wrists! Chat Icon I love his new wrist roll!

I really have no snappy comebacks to the, he's a big boy comments. I just kind of Chat Icon and say, well on his last visit, he was in the 50th %ile for weight, his head is actually only 10% and 75% for length. Aside from going to a few play groups at the library, I really have no control group for a 4-5 month old baby. He looks like a perfect baby shape and size to me. And that's pretty much what I say too... I think he looks like a cute baby, what a baby should look like.

I mean really... do you think my DS is a big baby???

Re: moms with big babies?

your DD sounds average size to me. My DS was 27 inches and 17 lbs at 4 months and my first DD was 16lbs 12ozs 25 inches at 4 months. My 3rd baby was my "chunky" baby. At 4 months she was 19lbs 3 ozs and was 25.25 inches long. Now at 2 she is 32 lbs(she weighs the same as my 3 year old does right nowChat Icon). Even the doctor told me she is chunky. It doesn't bug me. She is really thining out now, she only has 1 little roll left on her thighsChat Icon You DD is perfectly normal, don't let it bug you. I think chubby babies are adorable. Most chubby babies thin out by 2-3 years old so don't stress itChat Icon

Re: moms with big babies?

DD will be 5 months on 12/1 and is 17lbs and 25 in. People are CONSTANTLY commenting on how big she is. I just smile (sometimes fake!) and say, yes she's a big girl!
I have been asked if she is 9 months old several times! I think people also don't have a CLUE what size babies are at certain ages.

Re: moms with big babies?

Since my son was born at 11 pounds 8 ounces, I heard it all. (He was also long, so he was pretty dang proportionate.) We just laughed and let it go. Sometimes I'd say "I gave birth to a toddler" By a year he was thinning out. And at 2 years, his pants fall off without a belt.

Re: moms with big babies?

I kind of took pride in being told how big my babies were. Maybe I should not have.. but I just saw it as them saying my kids seemed really healthy. Chat Icon So whenever someone said "WOW.. he's HUGEEE!" - I'd say "Thanks! I made him myself!" When people made comments about how much he eats I would sometimes go on a long diatribe about their feeding schedule.. which made them never comment on that again. I don't have any chunky baby pics of my own kids on the computer but here's a pic of my best friends son from this summer.. he's 4 months old here (he was naked so I took a second to make a fake loincloth):External Image

DD is pretty big for her age too-- she is 8 1/2 months and 22 1/2 lbs! People make comments, but she is truly a beautiful baby, and i don't let it bother me! She is so active that she will thin out soon anyway.

Re: moms with big babies?

DD wasn't born big and ballooned out..she is and was the most adorable chubby baby! Out of all ppl I would get comments from my MIL and I would vent on here a lot!!!! I would always say I was a very chubby baby and now am a normal adult, where on the other hand her kids were all skinny babies and now they both struggle with weight issues...Chat Icon

Re: moms with big babies?

DD was considered a big baby. She was always in the 95th % for height and weight. When people commented on how big she was, how chunky she was, how big her head was..... I just smiled. Now that she is almost 2 she has completely thinned out and people comment and how tall and skinny she is.....so no matter the size of your baby people will always have a comment to make Chat Icon
