Moms with convertible cribs?

we went crib shoppiing yesterday and i am SO confused... i really really like the the convertible concept and style but it doesn't have a drop side?? I'm not very tall and the salesperson was saying i'd regret it. Is it that much of a pain. Its a Munire crib. I figured i could get a little stool for when i need to put baby in the crib later on when the mattress is lower?? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I think it's a pain to not have a drop side. I'm short and always had to do acrobatic moves to get a sleeping baby into the convertible crib. But I went for looks when I ordered my furniture, so that's what I got!

Re: Moms with convertible cribs?

Mine is a convertable and has a drop side. I really need it because I have a bad back. Now that the mattress is down all the way, I couldn't imagine laying him into the crib without the drop side. My crip is from Pali.

Re: Moms with convertible cribs?

I was just thinking about this today.

I'm 5'6" and I have trouble getting him out of the highest setting sometimes.

It's going to be a pain when he gets bigger and I need to get him out and set him down.

Re: Moms with convertible cribs?

I just replied to a post on the pregnancy board regarding a similar topic. My cribs both have a drop down side, but I have NEVER used this feature. I am 5'4 and even when I was 9 months pregnant with #2, I still didn't need to drop it to get DD out. By the time you drop the mattress to the lowest setting your DC will likely be standing up waiting for you to get him/her out! Even when that isn't the case, though, I am fine.

i agree. my crib doesn't have a drop side and my ds is always standing waiting to be picked up and i've also never had a problem putting him in. i have friends that do have drop sides and they say the same thing, that they never drop the side anyway

Re: Moms with convertible cribs?

We intentionally got a crib without the drop sides. I was leary about having a side that could drop in the middle of the night if I or DW was exhausted when we put DC back in the crib, and we didn't latch the side properly, or forgot to do it at all. I'm sure we've all done things during the exhausted first few months that we wouldn't think of doing with just a few hours of sleep.

DW and I are both about 5'6", and have never had a problem with either crib. DD is 1, and DS is 4 (he's currently in daybed mode).

Re: Moms with convertible cribs?

i have a 2 convertibles without drop down side, i'm only 5'3'' and I have zero issues with it and my height even with the mattress droppedChat Icon

When you lower the crib mattress the baby is able to stand up to help you out and i have no problem putting dd in their to sleep.

I didn't care for the drop side cribs, they seem flimsy, i didn't like any of the mechanisms, i knew i would never use it :)
