Moms with milk allergy DC
My ped recommended I try to give her a baby spoonful of yogurt at 10 months to see how she reacts. So I did it today. She usually gets a rash on her face and screams in pain and today she never got a rash, but she did have a random screaming fit later in the day. So tomorrow I'll try 2 spoonfuls to see what happens.
What happens to your DC if he/she is exposed to milk or milk proteins?
Did they outgrow it? if so, when?

Re: Moms with milk allergy DC
I was told that yogurt is not a good indicator of whether or not a baby is allergic to milk. I guess it has something to do with the cultures and digestive enzymes in it. It makes it easier for their body to break the protein down. That being said, JT accidentally gave Ava a regular yogurt instead of the silk yogurt we give her and she had no reaction. However, we've given her foods with traces of milk in it and she gets sick. So I'm inclined to believe that yogurt won't always tell you if your child still has an allergy. Ava will always get a very, very bad diaper rash from milk, as well as eczema behind her ears, red eyes, phlegmy chest and a horrible stomach ache if I give her something with milk. ETA: I just want to add that I had a bad milk allergy as a child and outgrew it by three.

I am going to test Josh soon. I had milk products when he was 6 months and he had a reaction. The surefire sign with him is a breakout behind his ears.
The dr told me to wait a month and then give him cheese.

I tried yogurt at 8mths. She had no reaction until a week of giving it to her then she continously broke out in a rash within a few minutes of eating it. Guess it just had to build up in her system before she broke out. Tried again at 1yr and she had the same reaction so now we're waiting.

Re: Moms with milk allergy DC
Please be careful about doing a food challenge test at home. especially if your child may be anaphalatic allergic to a food. It really should be done at an allergists office god forbid a bad reaction happens.
When Kevin had his challenge test his allergist said that a reaction can occur anywhere from immediately to 24 hours after giving them milk. Kevin had his reaction 2 hours after his in-office challenge test. He vomited 12 times over the course of 2 hours. It wasn't pretty but luckily he didn't have an anaphalatic reaction.

I agree. We only challenge DD in the allergists office with foods that can potentially cause an anaphalatic reaction - like milk. My DD can eat Soy yogurt but cannot tolerate Soy milk. She vomits as soon as she has any. Her allergy is so severe that if you kiss her face after you've had say coffee with milk - she'll break out in a head to toe rash.

I am all for not doing food challanges at home, but the dr tells me to
did your ped tell you to get an allergist or did you do it on your own?

my ped told me to do it at home as well. He said do it at 10 months and if she has a reaction, then try again before her 1 year appt. Do you think it's because our children don't have a severe allergy?

Its possible but the thing with allergies is that the child could have a mild reaction one time and a bad reaction the next. Has your DC seen an allergist yet?

Re: Moms with milk allergy DC
I'd recommend your child see an allergist just to be on the safe side. I hope everything goes well!
