Milk Protein Allergy Moms
It seems there are few of us who have DC that have an allergy to milk protein.
Why don't we share what foods we have found that are safe for our DC to eat.
I'm just starting the finger food stage and I'm giving DD something that is triggering a reaction.
So far she's had:
banana watermelon cheerios sweet potato puffs apple wagon wheels (I just learned that this product does contain a milk protein.)

really? I didn't see anything on the label, I know the carrot ones contain milk!

I think I may have given Ryan something too - he had 7 poops at daycare yesterday. They changed him every 1-1.5 hrs and he had such abad diaper rash and is so cranky. I gave him a little hot dog roll over the wkend (the dr. siad to try and introduce stuff and if he has a reaction, stop it obviously) Oh and they gave him graham crackers in his new room which could have done it also... but here's what he does eat: LOTS and LOTS of Cheerios apple/cinnamon and sweet pot. puffs dried apple bits (gerber?) Brown rice tater tots canteloupe string beans cut up banana he spit out chicken I know Pop Tarts are safe - albeit mostly sugar....he hasnt had them yet but will at daycare...

a little off, Josh has milk/soy protein allergy, so I have been trying to make food that is okay for me(he BFs) to prepare for table foods time.
I make pancakes from scratch using rice milk. I also bread everything in pretzels(most breadcrumbs have whey or milk in them)
baked sweet potato fries(most frozen foods have something bad in them)
ETA: I have found that Arnold's Wheat select is the most ingrediant free for hamburger/hotdog buns.
But find a good healthfood store, the variety makes all the difference.
Also, if hannah still seems bothered, take soy away from her diet and see if that makes a difference.

4C Kosher breadcrumbs are safe for milk/egg allergic - but they must be the KOSHER label - Super Stop & Shop in Amityville carries them...

One of our favorites when DS was in the early finger foods stage was Vans Waffles (the ones that specifically say dairy free).

I'm new to reading labels so maybe I'm wrong, but my label has a "D" next to the U and my ped said to stay away from any label that has a "D". The only thing in the ingredients that could contain milk protein is the natural flavorings.
OK more questions:
Is SOY dairy free? Can I just give her soy yogurt and cheese?

No!!! Not necessarily. My DS had a horrible reaction to veggie shreds which contain milk.
eta: i think soy yogurt is okay, but my DS won't eat it so I don't buy it. I think some brands of soy cheese might be okay. Whole Foods has a good selection. Whole Foods also has a vegan margarine I think called Healthy Sticks.
Here's a list of Brendan's regular menu:
pancakes or waffles (made from one of the complete mixes that you just have to add water-Shop Rite and Walmart's brands are both dairy free) plain oatmeal ( i usually mix in some fruit) thomas' or pepperige farm mini bagels toast (most breads don't have dairy) eggs cheerios, kix, rice chex, Puffs a whole variety of fruits and veggies chicken, ground turkey, beef if i bread anything or use bread crumbs i also use the 4C Kosher bread crumbs cold cuts pasta, rice, couscous, orzo pretzels graham crackers triscuits nabisco arrowroot cookies Beechnut banana cookies Gerber Graduates chicken soup, chicken stew, or turkey stew ( i think these are the only varieties that don't have dairy)
Healthy Times brand makes a bunch of foods that are dairy free.
I know these are mostly table foods, but I figure you'll need these eventually. When we first started with finger foods it was mostly puffs, cheerios, small pieces of fruits and veggies, ditalini pasta, small pieces of toast.

The carrot ones definitely do contain milk. I thought they said nonfat dry milk? I can't remember. I had a container that I threw out after realizing they had milk. Does is say whey or cassein? Those are both milk products.

Some soy cheeses and yogurt do have milk in them.
Kevin is almost two these are some of the things he eats:
Snacks Fruit Veggies Dora Animal Crackers Wheatables Enjoy Life cookies - Top 8 allergy free - available at Health Food stores Teddy Grahams - Cinnamon & Oatmeal Graham crackers (although he seems to get a bit "wired" after eating them)
Breakfast Cheerios - plain & Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal
Lunch Hillshire Farms Cold Cuts or Hormel Natural cold cuts Scrambled Egg made with soy milk Tofutti American-style Cheese Plain Thomas' Bagels
Dinner Meatballs made with Prego, minced onion, Jason (Kosher) bread crumbs and an egg Tyson Chicken Nuggets Perdue Short cuts original roasted chicken Teriyaki or plain meatloaf Rice-o-roni - Chicken or pilaf flavors (High in sodium though) Pasta - plain Frozen veggies Small pieces of Ham steaks Small portions of our dinner as long as I use a "safe" recipe
We are in a rut right now in terms of food - he's pretty picky and throws new foods on the floor.

The D next to the U could mean there is milk somewhere in the factory. Don't go by the Kosher symbols - go by the ingredient label - it's the safest way.
If your dr. said to avoid anything with the D it means that they are unsure how sensitive your child is to even the minutest trace of milk protein, so in that case you'll be avoiding things that may or may not actually contain milk. You'll also have to avoid any product that the ingredient label says "may contain traces of milk".
Be careful with soy yogurt and cheeses many do contain milk proteins.
Safe soy yogurt is WholeSoy. Safe soy cheese is Tofutti.
Tofutti also makes amazing milk-free ice creams, frozen pizzas, cream cheese, and sour cream that are all safe for milk allergic. They taste really good too (well, except the cheese slices!)
Obviously fruits, meats, etc.
Store Brands of stuff we use:
Stop & Shop brand English Muffins Stroehman's and Friehofer's Breads Tyson chicken nuggets McCains fries/smileys Strawberry unfrosted Pop Tarts Pathmark brand spaghetti & meatballs Rice Dream Certain flavors of oatmeal Teddy Grahams 100 Calorie Packs Lorna Doones Ritz Crackers Ritz Dinosaurs Animal Crackers Graham Crackers Toaster Hash Browns Jones Pork Sausage Patties Thomas's Brand Cinnamon Raisin Bagels (not frozen, in the bread section) - regular size and mini Wheat Thins Harvest Grain Vegetable Crackers 4C Kosher BreadCrumbs Boston Cookies Pretzels (most brands) Van's Waffles (read label - not all are safe) Hillshire Farms Polska Kielbasa Rice A Roni (some) Cornbread flavor Stove Top Stuffing Oscar Mayer Bologna Lots of cold cereals Hormel Pepperoni Hebrew National Salami Butterball or Hillshire Farms Turkey Nathan;s Hot Dogs Most hams are safe
We make pudding with coconut milk.
We make pancakes that are milk/egg free (if you can have egg that's really easy).
We make safe meatloaf, safe chicken cutlets, safe meatballs, Mac and "Chreese" (Whole Foods has this), we eat tons of fruits and veggies.
I know a lot of this stuff will be for when your child is older, but some of the snacks, the chicken nuggets, stuffing, etc. might help right now.
