More amnio questions!

If you are having, or had one, what week did you have it? My ob told me I could have it from 15 weeks on and when I called the perinatologist's office they told me 16 weeks on. I am bummed right now because 15 weeks worked perfectly for me - I'm up in NY right now and it's the week before I go back to work in FL - schools start early!!!Chat Icon Now - with peri's office saying 16 weeks - I have to have it during first week of school - NOT GOOD! Really don't want to use up any time if I don't have to - and I'm sure first week taking off will be frowned upon. I guess I would do it on the Friday so then I am off the weekend to lay low and recover and only miss one day, or part of one day, of work.

Is two days after enough time?Chat Icon

Re: More amnio questions!

in my first pregnancy we did the amnio at 16 weeks. with the second pregnancy we did it at 15 weeks. they say you can do it at 14 weeks, but your risk of miscarriage is a little higher. if you did it between 15 and 16 weeks you would be fine also!

Re: More amnio questions!

I had my amnio at week 21 and was told to rest easy for two days afterwards. I had it done on a Tues afternoon and went back to work on Thursday.

Good luck.

Re: More amnio questions!

I just had mine at 16 weeks. I would listen to the perinatologist and do it at 16 weeks. I was told to rest for 24 hours. I think you will be fine if you do it on a Friday - what is a more important reason to take off of work than this ....... don't sweat it. You'll have a dr's note.

Good luck! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: More amnio questions!

Can you see if they can fit you in after the school day, or do they have to do it early?

i do know someone who had an amnio at 14 weeks, the dr just checked to make sure there was enough fluid to do it. She and the baby were fine afterwards.

Re: More amnio questions!

They told me there were certain chromosomal abnormalities that they could see at 16 weeks that they absolutely could NOT see at 15 - I've never heard this before. I want to double check with my OB what she has me as - because depending who I ask, what counter the use and which website I check, the date I originally want - I will be either 15 wks 6 days, 5 days, or 16 weeks already.Chat Icon At this point I'm just going to wait but it's annoying.

Re: More amnio questions!

My 1st pregnancy, I had my amnio after bad results from my Level II. So, I had mine at like 21.5 weeks. It was super late! This time around, I am scheduled to have it next Wed. when I am 16w5d. Last time I was told not to lift anything over 15 lbs. and to take it easy- spend a lot of time on the couch, esp. the first 48 hours. My doc recommends bedrest for 72 hours. Good luck! I've never heard of that before. The person i was referring to earlier that got an amnio at 14 weeks was told of a chromosomal abnormality. I don't see what they could see at 16 weeks that they couldn't see at 14 or 15 Chat Icon

Re: More amnio questions!

I had mine with DS at 16 weeks. I was told it was done 16-20 weeks.

I did it on a Friday. The first 24 hours are crucial. You will most likely get cramping. You need to drink lots of water.

I literally did NOTHING all weekend. For 2 days I decided I was going to be on bedrest with my feet up. I was so paranoid. I only got up to go to the bathroom. I started walking back on Sunday but still took it easy and just stayed home.

The CVS is done 10-14 weeks. I have never heard of someone getting an amnio before 16 weeks.

My dr will do one at 14 weeks as long as there is enough fluid.

Re: More amnio questions!

I'm just concerned that if I have it on a Friday, that I will have enough downtime and it will be safe for me to return to work on Monday. There is no way that I can miss two days of work in the first week of school!Chat Icon

If you have it on a Friday and go back to work on Monday, and rest all weekend, then you will fine.
