More Knock You Naked Brownie Questions!
So I made them twice this weekend for 2 parties. Both times they were delicious however I had a real issue with the execution! What am I doing wrong?
When it comes time to put the second half of the dough on top of the caramel and the chocolate chips, I take it out of the bowl and form it into a square on my counter top like she says, but when I try to pick it up off my counter to place it on top of the caramel/choc chip layer, it just falls apart. It does NOT stay in one nice, liftable piece. I used a spatula to loosen it like she said too. So I ended up just kind of dropping it in pieces over the caramel and it certainly did not cover it completely. It was kind of messy but once I baked it, it puffed up and spread out and the fact that you get to put powdered sugar on top hides the messiness --thank goodness for that!
But what am I doing wrong and why can't I get it to work like she does?

More Knock You Naked Brownie Questions!
The first time I made this I had the same problem because I flattened it out on a plastic cutting board and tried to lift with a spatula.
The second time I made it (last week), I used a disposable baking tin that came with a lid. I scooped out the second layer out of the bowl and shaped it in the lid of baking pan then I used the spatula along one of the edges to get some lift, then I turned the lid over the caramel layer and it just peeled out of the lid in one piece.

Re: More Knock You Naked Brownie Questions!
I just rolled it out on wax paper the size of the pan. Peel it right off & fits pan perfect. I have no issues making them.

OK so I need to use wax paper then. I was doing it right on my granite counter top - maybe that's why. Thanks!

Oh this is a great idea as well! Foil baking pan? What size?

Re: More Knock You Naked Brownie Questions!
The first time I made these, two years ago I was able to find the 18oz box of german chocolate cake. I found that the "dough" was less moist and was easier to lift. Since that time, the box mix has been reduced to 15.5 oz and I too have a hard time getting it on top of the chocolate chips. This year, I tried moving it in four squares and had better luck.

Yes, this makes all the difference.
But if you don't have any on hand, maybe next time refrigerate that half of the dough for 20 minutes or so it's less sticky.

I used the 8x8 Reynolds aluminum baking pan. I got it at target in a three pack.

You could do it right on the granite, if you have a cake lifter/giant spatula. I definitly could see it being difficult. The wax paper is the perfect size, I taped it to the countertop as I rolled it out.

I've only made them without nuts because there are nut allergies in the family.
They are delicious!
