Morning sickness and medication (repost from Pregnancy)

Hi ladies, I posted this on the Pregnancy board but thought maybe some of you would have some insight?

I am a little over 10 wks pregnant and struggling with severe morning sickness. At 6 weeks my doctor put me on Zofran, and while that didn’t stop the vomiting, it did help a lot w/the nausea in between. At 8 weeks she switched me to Reglan because I was dehydrated and losing too much weight. The Reglan helps a little w/the vomiting but I am constantly nauseous on it. I didn’t want to take anything but I cannot function. I am nauseous all day and all night, with little to no relief and I get sick 2-3 times a day. Eating and drinking and sleeping are torturous for me. I have called out sick to work so many times and when I am home I cannot get off the couch. Everyone says it should get better in a few weeks, but that is not helping me get through the days now!

Yesterday I went back to the doctor and she suggested I take both pills together. I do not want to do this, but I am tempted just to get some relief.

Do any of you have experience w/either or both of these drugs?

Any general advice on how to get through each day being so sick?

I have tried ALL of the home remedies and nothing gives me relief.

Zofran worked for me - I was miserable - very similar to you - I vomited everywhere - and sometimes oddly colored vomit (sorry so gross) which was frightening.

nothing helped but the Zofran - it didn't work 100% but kept me from becoming dehydrated as I couldn't even keep water down!

I took both Zofran and Reglan--but not together.

I had hyperemesis and I threw up for my entire pregnancy. Like Liza said, the zofran kept me from becoming dehydrated, by no means did it stop the vomiting, but it kept it a little bit at bay.

I only took Reglan once, and it was because of an insurance screw up and I couldn't go without meds for the amount of time that it would be. Reglan can make you very sleepy, so I could only take it at night and you have to take B6 with it as well...

I honestly don't think I would take both at the same time.....

ETA-You can do it, I was (even on zofran) puking upwards of 8-10 times a day and commuting to work in Manhattan. Like Liza said, I threw up in some odd places..

You can try ginger, that helps and basically just eat and drink whatever you can keep down..

ETA-for spelling

I agree with everything Kate said. I only tried Reglan once and it nearly put me in a sleep coma. I seriously couldn't get my eyes to stay open.

I took zofran from 7 weeks until 37 weeks - i was taking 32mg/day (4 doses of the 8mg pill) and still vomiting upwards of 17x. I had "my spot" on the side of the southern state parkway, the flowerbed in front of my parking spot, kept plastic bags in my car, coat pockets, you name it. I fainted in the bathroom at work on several occasions. I was sick the ENTIRE TIME. I vomited the day I delivered him.

You can do it - just focus on making it through and you can do it.

I did not have a great pregnancy, but i had an amazing newborn. He slept, he ate, and he was worth every second of misery.

Thank you ladies! I also commute into Manhattan and sit across from the bathroom on the LIRR every day but thankfully have yet to have to use it. I manage to make it to work most days alright, because I get sick first thing at home, but get sick in the car EVERY night when my husband picks me up at the end of the day.
I keep telling myself it will all be worth it in a few months :)

Re: Morning sickness and medication (repost from Pregnancy)

I have Severe Hyperemesis with both p/g, I took Reglan with my first and Zofran and Reglan together with my 2nd. Honestly, they did nothing for me. I spent a good amount of my 1st p/g in the hospital on IV. It lasted about 5-6 monthsChat Icon until I was off IV. With DD#2 I was only hospitalized a few times. I was determined to be home with DD#1. I did find out with that p/g the Benadryl gave me the most relief. YES BENADRYL. My Dr recommended it. He said they have found that it relaxes the gag reflex and he was right. It did help. I took it everyday.

I feel so bad when I read posts like this because I know what you are going through!

I had Hyperemisis (sever morning sickness) with both pregnancies. With my first pregnancy, they prescried both meds in pill form which did nothing for me. With both pregnancies I was on homecare which is treatments of Zofran through an IV. Better results and alot quicker. I was also geting fluids via IV since I couldn't keep a sip of water down. I had a nurse come every 2 days to change the IV line. I lost alot of weight which was not good since I was thin to begin with. I looked like death. Vomiting is an uderstatement. Once I would start to vomit, I couldn't stop..it would go on an on and on to the point where I would pee myself, sorry for TMI..I would break blood vessels in my eyes and get a bloody nose. My blood pressure was so low that I was hospitalized several times and thought everytime I was being admitted it would be my last because I was going to die. I literally felt like I was dying!

I don't know how I made it through the day..you just do. The ONLY thing that gave me a little bit of relief was lemons sprinkled with sugar!

I had a OB and family who listened to me and didn't shrug it off to be typical morning sickness. There is a HUGE difference and if you continue to feel the way you described, I suggest you speak with your OB about other options.

Good Luck!
