Mortgage process vent
We are so excited to be purchasing our first home together but I have to say, getting a mortgage is a nightmare!! I get it, I know that the mortgage process has changed but everyday, I feel like they ask us for more paperwork, more documentation. Please tell me that this will all work out!! Vent over.

They asked us for paperwork until the day before closing. It sucks. Just breath because its going to suck even more.

Mortgage process vent
I could have written this myself. Going through this RIGHT NOW and they email me daily wanting more. Their new thing is loan verifications for our student loans to ensure the payments won't change- pain in the you know what!!!

Re: Mortgage process vent
I remember we used to have to fax the same papers over and over again. Every single day until the day before we closed. It went on for MONTHS. Nightmare process

Re: Mortgage process vent
It doesn't get any easier to refinance either.
We've been in the process of doing a HARP refinance since MARCH.
If they aren't asking for more documentation, they are waiting for weeks to be approved for next step or they come up with some other glitch.
Totally makes me miss my days of just being a renter with little financial resposnibility....

I would think who you are working with can make it easier. My shortsale mortage from every angle was smooth. My realtor had a great set of assets to use for inspection, mortgage banker, etc...

Re: Mortgage process vent
It totally depends on who you're working with and how organized you are. It was such a simple process for us. I think we had one time we had to provide more info. Start to finish was under 2 weeks, for approval.

Re: Mortgage process vent
Same thing 19 years ago when we bought our home. It felt like it was never-ending with the paperwork they wanted AND we bought from my parents and only had one lawyer and all original paperwork.
Don't worry, it all works out and soon enough you will be in your own home

We used Continental and I have to say for the most part our process was pretty smooth sailing. Good luck it may seem tedious now but it will all be over soon and you will be in your new home!!

Re: Mortgage process vent
They asked us for the most ridiculous stuff. My husband has the same name as his grandfather, so everything coming up under a name search was his grandfather - they wanted to know why he was issued a credit card in 1970 when he wasn't born until 1976. Seriously??? Some people just need to use common sense.

This! We submitted papers once and never had to do it again. We were tight on time so that caused us stress, but documentation didn't. Our loan officer was thorough and didn't send our stuff in until she knew it would be approved - and she was right. Her motto was do it right the first time and it'll be fine.
So sorry your experience isn't the same --- but it's all for a good reason !! Hugs!

Our refi was blocked most of the summer because of the issue on LI with same street names in same zip codes.
They had to wait for our current lender to fix and then the same thing happened with Fannie Mae who owned the loan. Both had us listed as living in different parts of town.
Still waiting for an okay to move forward after submitting 12345678910 financial related items.
We also had one refi person refuse to work with us because the process is so ridiculous.

Us too. They did ask for some ridiculous stuff (like 2 years worth of cancelled rent checks) and did ask for the same thing multiple times. But I am convinced the processor we worked with was a ditz. She'd ask for something and we would just forward the email we had already sent her. I did reflect that in the survey we got after we closed.

Re: Mortgage process vent
Honestly, it sounds like you have a bad mortgage process server. I would speak with a supervisor and not take incompetence. Asking for the same documentation over and over again is incompetent. I can understand once, as things get misplaced. Also, when they sent the initial requirements, how did you email them back? As one large email or multiple messages? I find that responding once to the original requirements email with everything attached makes it much easier for them.

Wow that sucks..Our processor was pretty good. I guess it depends who you work with.
