Mortgage Rates

I am just wondering if anyone knows what the rates are these days for a 30 year fixed. Also, is it better to go to a bank for the loan or a mortgage broker? Thanks I am new to all of this.

Re: Mortgage Rates

we personally felt more comfortable going to banks. We got our mortgage from HSBC (6.125% for 30 years).

I think brokers are great especially in unique situations or if your credit isn't strong, but you are paying them commission. We wanted to save as much money as we could so hence why we choose a bank.

I believe rates right now are floating between 6.25-6.30 from last I checked.

Yep, that's where they were last Wednesday!!!

DH's friend is a mortgage broker so we went with him. If he wasn't a friend, we would've directly went with a bank.

I agree. I trust bankers more than brokers and the reason we went with HSBC (we also met with WAMU). We got a 6.000% for 30 years.

I've heard the Federal Credit Unions offer lower interest at times, but we decided to go with the bank that we used daily for all of our savings/checking needs.
