mother doesnt want to be called grandma/nana
what else would you call her? any suggestions?

what nationality are you? my mom is called "nonna" which is italian and dh's mom is "oma" she is from germany..

my friends children call their grandmother Mimi, its a french version of grandma i think. And they are not french.

My daughter calls my mother "Mema". She just kind of started doing it on her own before she could pronounce Grandma & it stuck.

My nephew calls my mom YaYa which is grandmother in Catalan (dialect of Spain)

we're hungarian, and my mom is going to be called the hungarian word for mom, since thats what I call her and I think its sweet for my DD to call her that....

My Mom is called Granny Anne by one grandson, Grandma by another. Other "grandmas" in our family are called Mimi & Mama Joan.

my mom didnt want to be grandma but it seemed like the first time my dd said it my moms heart melted, and she changed her mind on it

my daughter is due 12/30 & I keep telling her I don't like the name Grandma (too young) so I will just be called Jodi....lol My daughter called my mom by her first name for a long time when she was little

My aunt's granddaughter calls her "GMamma." It is so cute. They are from "cajun country," so the accent makes it even cuter!

My daughter too! Although I find since it is so close to mommy she uses these names interchangebly to refer to both me and my mother.

DH's mom is nonna- italian for grandma. My mom is maima- some of the older grandchildren call her that because when they were very small they couldn't pronounce grandma. Now all the grandkids call her that!

My Mom goes by NaNa (not Nan-a), my sister's husband is from Israel, his Mom goes by Safta (informal Hebrew, the formal is Savta)
Growing up I had a friend who called her Grandmother "Ging" (hard G and rhymes with sing)

My MIL made a big deal about wanting to have a "different" name than my mom. I told her grandma is grandma he will call you whatever he can say. So in the beginning he would call both grandmothers MA but now they are both grandma. My father never got to be grandpa he is Poppa and eventually so did my dh's step father.
