Moving DS to big boy bed tonight - any advice? UPDATE
DS is 2 yrs 4 months and we are moving him to his big boy room tonight with his twin bed (used to sleeping in a crib). Any advice? He was super excited about it last night when I was putting his bed together so hopefully he will feel the same way tonight when he actually has to sleep in it.
UPDATE DS slept like a champ!!! It took a few extra minutes to get him to sleep, and he woke up a little earlier than usual this morning, but he did did not make a single peep throughout the night! I got less sleep than he did, always checking the monitor! I am so proud of him!

Re: Moving DS to big boy bed tonight - any advice?
We just transitioned DD to a toddler bed this past weekend. We did it starting with her nap on Sat. For about an hour she got out of bed every minute. I just kept going back and putting her in bed. After an hour she "got" it and laid down and went to sleep.
Since then she's only gotten out of bed once and my DH went back in and put her in bed immediately and told her it's time for bed.
We just had to be consistent and we talked up her big girl bed A LOT. Now she calls it her Tinkerbell bed even though there isn't tinkerbell anywhere on it

we OVER-hyped it up...to the point where it was exhausting!! HAHA -We made a huge deal what it was like to be a big girl now...and she had her very own DORA sheets (she LOVES dora) and she was therefore super excited to have her very own big girl bed....and she slept through the night from day 1 (she was 23 mo old!)
Good Luck!

Just keep in mind the transition to falling asleep in a bed may take a while. DS never got out of the bed, still hasnt, but the first two weeks it took him over 2 hours to fall asleep and he was up at the crack of dawn. Other than that, it was probably the easiest transition weve ever had to do.

Re: Moving DS to big boy bed tonight - any advice?
Thanks ladies! You are making me feel better! We've been talking up his new bed for a while now too, and I showed him his Wall-E sheets and he is so excited. We also got a light-up moon to hang on the wall since he is obsessed with the moon. Wish us luck!
ETA: Do you have a gate or something to keep them in the room in case they get up? I'm afraid of DS wandering around the house in the middle of the night.

We did put a retractable gate up outside his room, but we never use it. We just put one of those doorknob things on the inside, so he cant turn it and wander around the house at night.

We have the lever-type handles and DS has recently discovered how to use the safety door handles that we put over them so unfortunately that won't work. I'll try the gate in the door frame and see if that works.
