Moving Estimate- does this sound right?

I am moving a 1 bedroom apartment
( elevator building to elevator building)

I have a sectional sofa, plasma TV- total about 15 pieces of Furniture

boxes- he thinks about 60- I don't think anywhere near that much

he will give me wardrobe boxes and wrap and move all glass, pictures

4 guys

$1438 for 8 hours

if we go under 8 hours - then I get back $148 per hour

what do you guys think- I never hired movers before

and if you think this is high- who did you use?

TIA

we used cybermove.com and it was 115 per hour. They charged extra for anything that was glass.
They also charge for one hour travel time. If they spend 4 hours moving your stuff you get charged for 5. It wasn't just them that was every company I called.

Actually that price sounds pretty good because they charged extra for tvs and boxes.

That sounds good but 8 hours seems like a long time. Are you moving far?

Re: Moving Estimate- does this sound right?

just curious, why not rent a UHAUL, get your hubby and a couple of his friends and they do it. You will save a lot of money. I know thats what our friends did.

We used a few weeks ago and are using next week Gentil Movers (garden city park) they are about 125 an hour with a 4 hour mimum. Such nice guys, owner is real nice. I was very impressed with them.

My Husband has a bad neck- and I can't risk him hurting himself lifting heavy things

plus we have to move on a weekday

We just paid $110 per hour but that was here in CO but still that seems a little high to me per hour.

Re: Moving Estimate- does this sound right?

I used johnson movers in levittown and I don't know how much it was an hour but we moved from a 2 bedroom apartment in bellmore to a house in sayville and it cost us $850. They did a great job and I highly recommend them, I don't know if it is more because it is an apartment building but you might want to check them out. I got their name from on here.

Re: Moving Estimate- does this sound right?

I am the queen of getting moving quotes (we must have gotten at least 16 before we picked one) and the numbers you are quoting sound pretty good.

Re: Moving Estimate- does this sound right?

We boxed a lot of things ourselves and moved them to the new house little by little, so we only paid $575. They were finshed in 3 1/2 hrs.
