MTHFR gene

I know I posted about this a few weeks ago but I finally got my paperwork mailed to me and I found out a little more about my mutation. I have a homozygous C677T mutation on the MTHFR gene. I stupidly googled this and read that this is a more dangerous mutation of the gene? Can anyone with the same mutation shed some light on how their doctors handled this or offer any advice

Hi have 2 copies of MTHFR. I take lovenox for it when I cycle, until after I give birth, if that day ever comes. That being said, NO ONE at good Sam hospital knew what it was. They had never heard of it and kept questioning me about it... It doesn't appear to be well known from what I can tell. Not sure if that helps you any...

I am homozygous for the exact mutation. I am on Metanx, baby aspirin, and lovenox. I am currently 11 weeks pregnant with twins and knock on wood, everything is going well. It's really not a huge deal if it is treated when you are cycling and become pregnant.

No, I actually call it the Motherf*cker gene when I talk about it with people IRL

Thanks ladies. Has anyone with the same mutation not needed daily injections? I know that should be the least of my worries but I'm really scared of this

IMHO...with a double C mutation...don't risk it. I do not have the double C mutation but instead am compound heterozygous and feel guilty at times for not using the Lovenox. My Dr said that my mutation does not require it..which is true but he would have given it to me if I wanted it. Despite it not being indicated for my mutation, many women swear that the shots are the only thing that allowed them to finally have a take home baby.

I didn't want to take the shots and was all too happy not too. However..I've had several chemical pregnancies..so who knows if things might have been different had I taken Lovenox from the start. Now that my journey with my OE's is almost at a close..for my last cycle..I'm doing the injections. The one thing that you do not want to have is regret...especially when shots are indicated for your mutation. JMHO and I hope you don't mind me saying so.

FYI...there is a really good MTHFR yahoo group that you might want to take a look at. GL!!

Re: MTHFR gene

I also have the homozygous C677T gene and I am now on baby asiprin and folic acid for life. However, I did do the lovenox shots while doing IVF, and stayed on them my whole pregnancy and weened off of them 6 weeks PP. I really feel this was the key in my successful cyvle/pregnancy as i had 4 losses before being diagnosed.
