Mulch: Brown or Red? Big or Small?
I think we like the large brown pieces. Are there any advantages to one over the other? DH really doesn't like the red but I could go either way.
I would love pics if you have them!

Come on down, our landscaping is done! We used red lava rock and red rubber mulch and it looks AWESOME!

Re: Mulch: Brown or Red? Big or Small?
Question about the Mulch: We usually have our landscaper put mulch down in the spring, but they charge us to do it. I'm contemplating doing it ourselves next year. Is there any prep work that goes into it, or is it as simple as opening a bag and pouring it out?
Thanks!

Not a fan of the red, it looks unnatural to me. Black is my first choice, then brown.

Re: Mulch: Brown or Red? Big or Small?
We had brown one year, but since then have been much happier with black mulch. The black doesnt fade!
To the PP we only do some weeding and then dump the mulch down. It is VERY cheap like $3 a bag?

Re: Mulch: Brown or Red? Big or Small?
Okay, so I came outside to find a few ziploc bags that my landscaper left on the porch!
He left the dark chocolate brown but no black (I actually forgot that this was an option). I didn't realize that mulch fades either.
What do you all pick? The big pieces or the little ones? Does one look nicer than the other? TIA!

we have black, little pieces. My dad is a landscaper and we helped him mulch our beds and it was basically just putting it down over the topsoil and spreading it out. easy peasy.....

The black looks good for awhile, but Nico told us that it fades to a gray color after awhile.
We opted for the lava rock/rubber mulch because they are guaranteed not to fade for 10 years. And after all the work that went into landscaping and mulching the flower beds, that's pretty much the next time I want to have to do it!

I may just have to look into this rubber stuff. Fading doesn't thrill me....I never would have guessed it from the curb-it looks great!

We had the red when we bought our house- it was AWFUL! It faded to an orange. We put down brown and are much happier now!

Re: Mulch: Brown or Red? Big or Small?
We go au naturale.
We started with the free mulch from the dump and now we have a huge pile in our driveway from all the trees that were chipped.
I don't think we'll run out for a while.

Do you mind sharing where you got it?
I was looking for some for my son's play area in the yard.
I did not think to look for lanscaping but that's a good idea too.

I looked it up and it said that Lowe's carries it. I think Home Depot might also. HTH.

Home Depot carries it in black--at least the one here in NC does.
