Re: Murder suicide in Garden City
Why do people feel the need to kill family members when they are suicidal? I just dont understand it.

This is what I was thinking - I really hope it's not another family too!

Re: Murder suicide in Garden City
So very, very sad. Everybody was talking about it at my nail place this morning. Their house is about 5 minutes from mine...I pass it almost every day.
What a sad place that husband and father must have been in to think this was the only way out. Why take down your family with you? I know he felt he failed them financially...but really...how do you take the lives of your wife and children???
So very, very sad.

Very disturbing - considering he didn't use a knife or a gun - i can't imagine what went on it that room - didn't they fight back? it just makes no sense to me at all.

Re: Murder suicide in Garden City
Between this and David Kellerman - I can't believe that finances and/or your career is worth taking your life and someone elses. I can't imagine the despair.
I wish people would stop and look at their own life when things like this happen. Like, 'is it worth it?' To sacrifice your mental health and happiness for what? A career? Money? It's sad. I'd rather be poor and happy any day.
My thoughts and prayers go out to their friends, families and co-workers and anyone else in despair.

Re: Murder suicide in Garden City
this story makes me so sick, especially as a Loyola alum. they say her roommates called the hotel and spoke to the father who said she would be staying at the hotel, but they believe the family was already dead at that time. i can't imagine. the cause of death was blunt trauma and asphyxiation and then he killed himself with a knife. i can't imagine how someone would have to feel to do such a thing to their own children.

Re: Murder suicide in Garden City
Ugh...this quote just made me :
"An analysis by the Violence Policy Center in Washington, D.C., found an average of nine or 10 murder-suicides a week. But familicides — in which both parents and all their children are killed — generally happen only happen two or three times every six months".
ONLY 2-3 times every six months?!?!?!?!?!? ONLY??!?!?!?!!?!?

This is just so sad. Do they know for sure that the father did it? I went to school in Towson and know exactly where that hotel is. I used to pass by it everyday.

Re: Murder suicide in Garden City
It is so sad.......such a tragedy.
It seems more and more suicides are happening lately. Is this what the economy is forcing people to do? It's absolutely horrible!!!!!
Then to take down your entire family........it is just horrific. What I can't understand is.......between the wife and the kids.........noone heard Screaming.......noone had that quick second to run out of the room for help........or anything???
Something doesnt make sense here. He had to have done it one by one........what were the others doing in the meantime? It's not like they were tied up? Not sure if something is missing. Hard to understand how this guy did it all himself. But I guess its possible.........
Hope they all RIP..........

Re: Murder suicide in Garden City
It's all over the news down here. Very sad. Just this past weekend, there was another Maryland man who also killed his wife and 3 young kids over financial debt.
I'm wondering with this recession if this is going to be common news to hear.

I'm assuming they were drugged first (at least that's what I'm hoping to hear).

Re: Murder suicide in Garden City
My very close friend is the cousin of Bill Parente. They were an extremely close family, all got together all the time and the family is absolutely devasted. The news isn't reporting everything exactly right, there is alot of info that has not been released. My friend & her parents are the next of kin because neither Bill or BettyAnn had siblings or living parents. Right now they are trying to raise money to buy for four caskets & have funerals. They are still waiting for the bodies to be released & returned to LI. This has been a living nightmare for my friend and while everyone agrees its a horrible thing that he did, he was a well loved man. Please pray for them, the funeral is going to be horrific.
