My very close friend is the cousin of Bill Parente. They were an extremely close family, all got together all the time and the family is absolutely devasted. The news isn't reporting everything exactly right, there is alot of info that has not been released.
My friend & her parents are the next of kin because neither Bill or BettyAnn had siblings or living parents. Right now they are trying to raise money to buy for four caskets & have funerals. They are still waiting for the bodies to be released & returned to LI.
This has been a living nightmare for my friend and while everyone agrees its a horrible thing that he did, he was a well loved man.
Please pray for them, the funeral is going to be horrific.
I can't even imagine what they must be going through. My prayers are with them.

This story is absolutely heartbreaking.
I cant even imagine the hurt and desperation this man was feeling. Not justifying anything at all of course but I think when people reach that level, they sometimes think that taking their loved ones with them is the way to go. And from everything I have read and heard, they were such a loving, close family...he probably just thought it was a way to end his pain and have his family "with him." I cannot even imagine that pain. I pray for all of them and the rest of the family.

I feel extremely sorry for what this family must have went thru -
BUT
I simply cannot wrap my head around the manner in which he killed them.
It was a VIOLENT death - a PAINFUL death.
He is described as this loving, wonderful man - there HAD to be a better way to go than to choke and beat them to death.

Yeah, th FBI had started to investigate him within the past week due to a complaint from an investor who wanted his $$ back after everything that happened with Madoff.
What I don't get....[based on Newsday reports]
1. The husband kills the wife - brutally attacks her first and she dies.
2. He doesn't kill the 11 year old right away, so she witnesses all of this. Why didn't she scream, cry for help? How did no guest here any of this assault?
3. The oldest daughter walks in and is killed instantly/moments upon walking through the door.
Not only did they suffer, but imagine what these people saw before they died.
It's heart breaking!

What an awful story. 
As OP said, I really just can't understand WHY you would kill your kids. For any reason. A 4th-grader at the school where I teach was killed last year by her mother because the mom wanted to kill herself and wrote in a note that she didn't want her daughter to grow up without a mom.
I pray for this family, because it must be awful and heart-wrenching to get to such a point
