My 15 m/o refuses to drink his milk out of sippy...
so my 15 month old is refusing to drink his milk out of sippy cup, he does fine drinking water or juice. Pedi said to get rid of bottles asap as its really bad for teeth, i know if i get rid of his morning and night milk bottle he will not get his milk in. i just don't know what to do... just want to hear what others did in similar situation. Is it really that horrible for teeth to do bottle 2x a day? he has about 5-6 oz in his bottle

Re: My 15 m/o refuses to drink his milk out of sippy...
we had to go cold turkey on the bottles because ds wasn't giving it up and wouldn't drink milk out of a sippy.
The first few nights, we did give him a pm bottle before bedtime. Then we gave that up as well. It took about 10 days and he was drinking milk from the sippy with no problem.

Re: My 15 m/o refuses to drink his milk out of sippy...
I took my sons bottle away at 1 y/o. He also would drink juice or water out of sippy cup but not milk. I ended up buying him a regular cup with a straw and he loved it. It was the only way he would drink milk. A few months later he stopped using the sippy cups all together and started drinking out of regular cups on his own. HTH

Re: My 15 m/o refuses to drink his milk out of sippy...
I took all but one bottle away around 12/13 months and by 14 months he was off all bottles. My ped didn't push but when I was telling him that was my plan he warned about a milk strike and said to stay the course. DS refused for a day or two and then that was it. In the meanwhile he was getting yogurt and cheese so we weren't too concerned.
It comes down to who is more determined and the timing.

Re: My 15 m/o refuses to drink his milk out of sippy...
I think that the "bad for the teeth" thing with bottles is when that last bottle is at bedtime & they go to sleep immediately or if they fall asleep on the bottle.
DS refuses milk out of anything besides a bottle. What we did with DS was we worked at keeping him awake & not getting so sleepy at that night bottle. AFter he finished it....we would brush his teeth. So frankly I really had no worry about the bad for teeth/bottle thing.
After a few months of that he has altogether given up that bedtime bottle anyhow.....at around 14 months old he started eating enough at dinner time to hold him over. He will always take his morning bottle, the afternoon one is iffy....we give him yogurt & cheese, spinach....any high calcium foods to make up for the lack of milk.
Sorry fo rthe tangent!!

ds is picky over which type of sippy the milk comes out of since some have a different flow then others...

Re: My 15 m/o refuses to drink his milk out of sippy...
my best recommendation is to buy either nuby or munchkin sippy cups. They have a spout that is soft similar to bottle nipple. It helps to make transition smoother. Once they do well on this, then go to any other hard spout sippy for age 6m...

Re: My 15 m/o refuses to drink his milk out of sippy...
We wemt cold turkey on his 2 bottles at 19 months. We were thinking about doing it around 17-18 months, but we were heading to FLorida for a wedding and didn't want to throw off a routine and upset him for a plane ride.
It was much easier than we thought it would be. He whined the first day for his bottles, but when he found none he just drank out of his straw cups. (Never took a 'sippy' cup.)

Re: My 15 m/o refuses to drink his milk out of sippy...
My son had difficulty maintaining his weight for a while. At 2 he goes back and forth between regular cups, sippy cups and bottles. He will always take more from a bottle and that's important for his situation. I'm not worried because he does all three. If we took away the bottle, he would be easygoing about it but he would drink a lot less. I am worried about his teeth, though.
