My 1st Zumba class
So after reading about Zumba and watching the videos I was psyched to finally try my 1st class this morning. I love to dance and did so for almost 12 years- so I thought this would be right up my alley. Boy was I dissappointed I guess it was the instructor- she did a lot of the same moves over and over again in every routine and it seemed like she was making up as we went along half the time. I did break a sweat but it just wasn't the workout I thought it was be and not as fun either.
I guess i'll look around and maybe try another instructor before I give up - or maybe my expectations were just too high
Can anyone recommend a good class in the npt/e npt area? Even an adult dance class maybe - that is not crazy expensive.

I don't know about Zumba but if you want an awesome work out, check out Cardio Kickboxing at Chris Gates Tae Kwon Do. I've been going there for years and NEVER have a left there w/o sweating my azz off. Great workout and great instructors.

That's the thing with Zumba, you never know what you're going to get. There are a lot of great instructors out there, but there are also a lot of duds. Hopefully you'll find a good one because it can be a lot of fun.

Re: My 1st Zumba class
Chris Gates is awesome...
Here's the thing with Zumba:
Zumba follows a formula, so the moves can't vary too much within the song. So, there's the same move for the chorus, the same move for each part of the song...
So lets say the song was Cale Ocho - there would be a move for:
1, 2, 3, 4, uno dos tres
A move for the I know you want me
A move for Rumba....
A move for the fast singing part, etc - but then the 1,2,3 would be the same move as before.
If its done right, it shouldn't be boring - because even though its the same moves, different arm and fitness variations are thrown in....
the instructor may have been panicking about remembering the formula, so it looked like she was maiking it up. which is common - but a good instructor who knows her sh*t and can feel the music and knows it well will make it look effortless... A good instructor has to be full of energy, and really move and shake it and make it fun.
Trust me - not EVERY Zumba instructor is boring
