Re: My 2 month old has a flat head
I can not really offer advice as I did not experience this, but my niece did and it did rectify itself. My SIL purchased the bobby noggin nest to help. Not sure how helpful it was but I would spend $15.00 for it. Image Attachment(s):

Re: My 2 month old has a flat head
Im posting since my DS didnt rectify and it was already pretty severe by 3/4 mnths old. We didnt have an option but to get PT and a helmet.
He is a yr old and looks great and Im so thankful that we did go that route and not chance it by not getting him the helmet.
Wanted to let you know that its very common Torticollis and flat head and many of us have dealt with it and can help with questions or support.

How long did he have the helmet? Did he get used to it? I am so afraid she is going to cry or be uncomfortable....I am dreading it. Thank you

I have this. I'm really not sure if it helps or not. I got it to try to prevent a flat head.
I bought it at Babies R Us

Re: My 2 month old has a flat head
I have been using that pillow since I noticed my son developing a flat spot at 5 weeks old. The flatness has corrected itself but due to his reflux he still favors his right side. We are addressing it at his 3 month visit. My advice is get the pillow and keep doing tummy time.

I had this and DS used it every time he was in his rocker, swing, and bouncy. He still developed flat head (plagiocephaly and brachycephaly) and needed a helmet.
I was devastated at first, so upset for him and for how people would look at him. I have to say, it went really easily, everybody was great about it, he did SUPER well with it and never even noticed he had it on. Overall, best case scenario.
He wore it for 3 months, from 7-10 months old. I wish so badly we had known there was a treatment for this earlier and had started the helmet earlier as I believe he would have had even better correction (the younger they are, the better the results since they're growing the most and quickest when they're even younger). As it is, his head does look great and I'm very happy we did it.
I've posted about it a few times - if you want to search for DOC band, you'll find my posts. FM me if you have any questions!!! Lots of luck.

Dd had a flat spot for months. I got the noggin and it worked and it rectify itself. It took a while but no helmet needed. Lots of tummy time and when laying on back on the noggin. They should not sleep on it but I did let her nap on it when I was watching her closely.
Also, my dr told us to flip her every other night. So when she slept one way the next night put her head where her feet were the night before kwim? I would also turn her head when she was sleeping but she would turn back

Wore from 4 1/2mths old until he was one.
He never knew the difference. The Doc said it the best, it was just another piece of accessory. He wore it through winter and just before summer came into full swing it was off.
He never cried and knew any different.

Re: My 2 month old has a flat head
My DD had flat head, it was in one spot actually. Dr said he was giving me until her 5th month appt, if it didnt get better she would get a helmet.
Making her head round was my JOB from that point on. Tummy time like 10 times a day for 5 mins. each. Holding her.putting her in a carrier so she is upright and not laying down. Sleeping on her side, rotating to a different side every nap/night.
THANKFULLY it fixed itself, but even now its about 90% good and she is gonna be 1 yr old tomorrow. Dr. said it doesnt have to be perfectly round, just not as flat as it was before.
Do your part as much as you can and hopefully you can avoid the helmet!
Oh and for the neck stretches... put the changing pad on the opposite side so she could turn her neck to look at you the opp. way. (keep switching it every week). Put her on the play mat and call her to one side, then the other, then the other. Dont let her stay looking at one side, favor one side, to much cause then for example if she is always laying on her back looking to the left, the left side will get flat, vice versa.

Re: My 2 month old has a flat head
my DS had a flat spots bc we would carrying him all the time (flat spot from our arms toward sides of his head) he hated tummy time and has a 99% head to begin with. we bought him the noggin nest and let him take naps on that, and put it in his stroller. his head got better all by itself!
Make sure you switch arms when you hold your LO , everyone held DS on one side, I had to keep telling people to switch arms

I used ths and my son's head is flat - not worth it. Best thing would be tummy time so that she can learn to safely sleep on her belly more. My DS is a back sleeper still even at 11 months. No matter how many times we roll him over, he winds up back on his back, making his head flat. He did sleep consistently on his belly for 2 weeks at one point and we did notice his head rounding out. I would also avoid spending too much time laying down (bouncy seats, swing, gym mats on the floor) even if they're soft. We took DS to a specialist in the city to get an opinion and that's what he suggested. I think that's where we went wrong. DS had reflux and spent too much time in his bouncy,

Re: My 2 month old has a flat head
DS had torticollis and flat head on one side. He wores his helmet from 4 months to 7 months full time. For naps and bedtime for another month after that. I do not regret it for one second. DS could have cared less... Always slept through the nite before and after we took it off. Never had an issues with it at all. He'll be one in 2 weeks and had a terrific result! FM if you need any info. My orthotist and PT were terrific!
