My Alli

So-- like all of you, I saw this stuff on the news and saw the ads, etc.

So I went to the site and looked around a little and said to myself f*ck it, I'll just order it.

Then today, I am bored at work-- and I went back to the site to explore and learn more. They have like 3 or 4 different tests/assessments to take-- all buried within the site content. So, I do the BMI one.. and cause my BMI is healthy, it says that I am not supposed to use the drug.

So... I feel like why is this not plastered on the site-- I had thought that this drug was for anyone who wanted to lose weight-- I only want to lose 10, MAYBE 15 pounds... but I have a hard time losing weight, so was looking for something to help me along.

Should I really not take it? I ordered last night-- and won't get it til next week.

Re: My Alli

There was a post about this last week. If you just read the possible side-effects, I would never ever take it! I'll try and bump it for you.

the Thread

Other side effects include gas with discharge, oily discharge, increased number of bowel movements, oily spotting, oily or fatty stools, urgent need to have a bowel movement and inability to control bowel movements. About 50 percent of patients on Orlistat experienced some side-effects and seven percent lost bowel control.

It's not made for the casual dieter - its made for people who are obese, morbidly obese, etc.

If I had to lose only 15 pounds, I wouldnt take it. Unfortunately, I'm not in that situation, so I will use it.

I'm a pharmacist and I think it is awful that the FDA allowed this drug to go OTC.
It is the old prescription drug Xenical but just a slightly lower dosage. It is not meant for the casual dieter at all and I feel it is really just going to be used by all the wrong people in the hopes of losing a little weight. The side effects are awful IMO and I am fat and wouldn't even consider taking it. I'd rather stay fat.
We sold out at work the first day we got it in and I can't tell you how many "thin" people IMO were buying it but there's no rule for us not to sell it to them.
It wasn't a popular drug when it was RX so I'm not sure how popular it will be once it's newness wears off and people realize the side effects.

I was VERY surprised how some places had sold out of it. When I got it there were only 2 or 3 left on the shelf. I had to ask the pharmacist about where I could get it, of course they had no clue what I was talking about. You'd think they would know.... I had to explain how it was a half dose of Orlistat and it finally then kicked in and they told me where they were hiding it.

I thought everyone would be dissaded by the side effects, and there would be plenty available for me to purchase. But of course that is me assuming that people would actually read about the pill before popping it. Silly me.

I'm going to start the program when we get back from vacation. I read the book, and it does not look easy. I think there are going to be a lot of disappointed people. (And hopefully a lot of happy people that use it correctly.)

Re: My Alli

I found the ads to be misleading- I could have sworn it said for people who want to lose as little as 5 lbs

the side effects were enough for me to skip it

I am going back the old fashion way of eating healthy and working out - I know what works for me and I don't do it- no pill can help that
