My AngelCare Monitor Alarm went off last night!
It was the first time the alarm went off. I almost had a heart attack! Of course it just happened to be the first night in 6 months that I gave Grace a blanket to sleep. Thank God she was fine. She just scooted all the way to the top of her mattress and I guess the sensor didn't sense her! I really do love this monitor, it gives me such piece of mind!

UGH how scary. Don't you just wish we could stick a computer chip in the baby that would report to us everything that is going on? (Beep, beep, wet diaper alert! Beep, beep, baby is getting hungry! Beep, beep she is fussing because the tag in her onesie is itchy!)

How scary, how much did you pay for the monitor and would you recommend it? , I'm wondering if I should purchase this. Did your baby have any predisposing issues that would make her high risk for SIDS or did you just purchase it for peace of mind? Everyone that I mention to that I want to get this monitor thinks it is ridiculous

Re: My AngelCare Monitor Alarm went off last night!
I would totally recommend the Angel Care Monitor. It's a little pricey (around $80.00 or so) but mine went off when Amber was six months or so (it has a 10 second delay alarm and then a 15 second..both went off). I almost had a heart attack! I was SIDS phobic (almost consumed with the idea), so it definitely gave me piece of mind. I gave mine to my sister for her little one, because he'll be a preemie.
It's basically a regular monitor unit with an additional flat monitor (sort of like a hard mouse pad) that goes underneath the baby's basinnet/crib mattress.

Re: My AngelCare Monitor Alarm went off last night!
It's so funny that this topic came up. I JUST now ordered one for DH's boss's new baby. We have it and I absoulutely love it. It does not prevent SIDS; but it has def. saved my sanity. I dont go in and "check" anymore. FYI babycenter is the cheapest place to get it even with shipping.
angel care monitor
And back to original post -- I FREAKED OUT the first time it went off - but we just had to adjust the sensor because he was rolling all over the place. Scary though!

It's $99.99 at BRU. A couple of my friends used this monitor and highly recommended it. I didn't use it until my daugther was about 3 1/2 months. Actually we used the sound monitor but didn't have the sensor set up. When she started rolling over I was paranoid and made my husband finally set up the sensor pad. So, no, my daughter did not have any issues that made her high risk for SIDS, she just has a paranoid mother. People think I am nuts too, but I sleep much better knowing that the sensor is hooked up. You put the sensor pad (about a squar foot in size) under the mattress. It detects the movements of the baby, even just breathing. If it doesn't sense anything for 20 seconds the alarm goes off. My daughter has become quite restless in her sleep, she is all over the crib. Last night when the alarm went off she managed to scoot all the way to the top of the crib. Although she was fine and sleeping soundly, I was grateful for the alarm as she was snuggled up close to her bumper. I may be paranoid, or should I say, I may have been, but I am not anymore. It gives me piece of mind.

That is scary. I am thinking about getting one for when she goes to her crib because I think I will be a nervous wreck otherwise.

I thought that SIDS was only a REAL risk until about 4 months, but I see some ladies are using it at 6 months.

Re: My AngelCare Monitor Alarm went off last night!
We're still using it at 8 months, less now for SIDS, more because I'm afraid of the blanket and bumper. And sometimes I fond Cole literally face down with his hiney up in the air in such a deep sleep. I'm afraid he'll suffocate.

Same with us. The monitor has gone off at least three times and Jesse is 5 1/2 months. He scoots all over the crib and often ends up in a corner with his face in the bumper. Usually the first beep startles him and he moves. Once it just kept beeping and we had to move him. It is scary when it goes off but it gives us a lot of peace of mind.

Re: My AngelCare Monitor Alarm went off last night!
I love it. I just stopped using it a couple months ago and Ryan was 2 1/2, at the end I used it as a warning system in case he got out of bed on his own.

It senses the baby's breathing. It is very sensitive.

Re: My AngelCare Monitor Alarm went off last night!
I have to admit, I don't quite get the appeal of the monitor. From what I've read, it doesn't save lives -- just lets you know the bad news sooner (or more likely scares you with a false alarm).
Then again, if it helps you sleep better so you aren't wondering about what ifs, then why not.
A note for those of you considering purchasing -- you must have a flat board under the mattress for it to work.
