ETA - In addition, I feel like I am neglecting her b/c she is content without my attention, carrying around, etc, etc. So other than feeding and holding for a while after feeding and changing, she doesn't seem to need me like I thought she would.
My little guy sounds similar. Sometimes he seems to prefer to be on his own, he whimpers and wiggles if we hold him for too long after he eats. I felt like I was neglecting him by letting him be on his own, but he seems so much more content, so I stay nearby and sing or just talk to him while he "plays" by himself. It's hard to think of a 9 week old being independent, but I guess that is what it is.
My DS is the same exact way. After he eats he wants to be on his playmat or hanging out on the ottoman looking at the fan and lights. He gets squirmy in my arms. But he loves when I talk to him and sing to him so I just consider myself lucky that I don't need to tote him around the house with me all the time.

mine never took a pacifier and needed to be held all day and night. he sucked a lot of the fun out of the experience.
sounds like you have an easy going bambino!

Re: My baby doesn't seem to need to be held and it's worrying me
My son became interested in the pacifier much later on, when he was a few months old. I never really felt that he needed to be held but he was fine when I did want to hold him. He was content most of the time, and still is. So far, he is fine. Now he shows me affection by jumping on me and gently head butting me. My dad taught him that and now he does it to everyone but I think it's better than him slobbering on people! Last night, he gently cuddled up to me for the first time in ages. I do sometimes feel like I must have done something wrong that my baby didn't crave the closeness. By the way, mine was a month early also. He was in the NICU and I was there a lot but I am sure I would have held him more if he was in my room. I wonder if that has something to do with it. I did do the Kangaroo holding a lot, though.
