My beta is still rising...

but not anywhere near doubling.Chat Icon And AF has been here for a few days now, and for the past day especially MAJORLY clotty and heavy (sorry if TMI)--- so why is my beta still rising???? Chat Icon Chat Icon

I went for bloodwork yesterday and again tomorrow. I guess they're worried enough that I have to go see one of the other Dr's tomorrow afternoon in Melville, and then go back to PJ on Thursday for more bloodwork... fun. Chat Icon Chat Icon Why is it still rising? Shouldn't it be gone or at least going down by this point? Chat Icon

Shannon,

I am sorry you are going through this. Chat Icon Maybe it's not AF...the doctor will be able to explain why the beta is rising slightly, it may have something to do with the surrounding tissue, etc. ( I had this with my chemical pregnancy last year).

Oh I am so sorry Shannon...

It's a good thing that they want to monitor you closely...just in case it is an ectopic pregnancy (which I am hoping it is not-and don't think it is)....sometimes beta comes down very slowly for some people......it might even take few weeks....

Hang in there!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Thanks Patty. Chat Icon I just need some answers already... I can't help but feel like it's holding on for dear life in there to try to survive (which probably sounds really stupid, but I can't help how I feelChat Icon ) and it's killing me emotionally.Chat Icon
The voicemail also said to 'notify us immediately if you have any major discomfort or pain' Chat Icon I didn't like the sound of that... Chat Icon I just want to know what they think is going on... Chat Icon

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I am so sorry this is taking so long. WHen I m/c'ed at 5/12 weeks I bled for 32 day and then stopped for a couple and then got AF. Only after I got AF did my beta get below ten. So it is rare but, it can take a very long time to go down. I know it just drags out a very sad situation and delays the grieving and moving on. I am sorry you are going through this. The docs are probably concerned about an ectopic since the beta is not going down. Most likely they will want to do a sonogram tomorrow to examine your tubes. Pain would be a sign of an ectopic. I went through this when I had my chemical. I also demanded to speak to Dr. B when this was going on in order to get some answers. Hang in there!

same here. HOping it is not though!

They thought mine was chemical but turned out ectopic. Just be sure to go to the ER if you feel any discomfort on either side. Chat Icon

Re: My beta is still rising...

i know with my pg, after they did the sonos and realized i had the septum and the pregnancy wasn't viable, my beta was still rising-not doubling, but went from like 46,000-50,000. It only went down after i had the d&c...

Re: My beta is still rising...

I'm so sorry that you are going through this. I'm sure this being dragged out is making it that more difficult to deal with.

I had an ectopic in January. I had very heavy bleeding and bad lower back pain.
I didn't go through IVF for that pregnancy.

Ectopics "can" occur very rarely in IVF. The whole idea is to by pass the tubes. But my RE did explain to me (bc I'm at risk for ectopics) that rarely the fertilized egg will for some reason float up into the tubes and implant.

Fortunately you are being monitored very closely. Perhaps they could give you a precautionary Methotrexate shot??

I'm sorry sweetie!! I hope this resolves real soon!!

Re: My beta is still rising...

Oh I'm so sorry. What a freakin nightmare you are going through. Hopefully it will drop a bit by tomorrow. As long as it starts going down that is good. You are bleeding a lot so that is good (not fun) but that may help. And it does play tricks with your brain. This whole thing plays tricks with our head. I swear in a month I did not BD at all, I would probably think I had pg symptoms. Try to hang in there, you are almost out of the woods with this. Praying your numbers are going down. Re: My beta is still rising...

I don't think your beta is high enough to be ectopic...the beta's are usually much higher.
I just had a chemical last month and my numbers continued to rise through AF, the beta didn't drop to below 5 until a full week after AF was here full force.
Apparently it's not uncommon for the body to continue to produce HCG for a few more days.Chat Icon
