My Birth Story....

So, rewind to Monday, February 11 at 9 am Vegas time.

I went to Brian in the bedroom and asked him if maybe he wanted to go to a buffet for breakfast, and he told me no that he really needed to sleep. So I said OK, and went back out and sat on my bed - the couch! About 10 minutes after I sat down - something felt off, and I stood to go to the bathroom, and all of a sudden, I felt wetness. I wasn't sure if I had had an accident or if my water had actually broken. So I walked quickly into the bathroom, pulled down my PJ pants, and looked at my legs, and found meconium on my inner thighs. Chat Icon

I was kind of in shock/disbelief when I saw the water and meconium, so I didn't say anything. I stood up, and the water started dripping again, so I sat back down on the toilet, and let the water drip a little more. It stopped, and I went into the bedroom and told Brian - ok we need to get moving.... My water just broke. He calmly looked at me and said. OK what do we need to do. I asked him to get my bathrobe and towel so that I could shower, and then he would shower and dress, and we would leave.

So, we are both ready, and we get in the car. Apparently, after your water breaks, your SO turns into Mario Andretti! Chat Icon We get to the hospital, he opens my car door and helps me out, and my water gushes alllllllll over my pants.

I get up to L & D, and I tell them about the meconium, that my contractions are about 5 minutes apart, and they bring me into a room, and hook me up to the monitors. Well, Kristina was sluggish in utero, so they had me continuously move from left to right. Not easy at all... So the contractions begin to get more painful, but there's something strange.... They are not all around my uterus - they are only at the bottom?! So I tell this to the nurse, and that's why they haven't been picking up on any of the contractions. The pain was way intense, and they inject Dilodid into my IV bag. It was ok for the pain, but once in about every 15 minutes I would have a HUGE contraction, and the pain would send me through the roof. Finally, at around 3:15, I started having a contraction that wouldn't end..... I was freaking/crying/in so much pain.... The nurse comes in and says to me - you need to get control over this and breathe.... easier said than done, I know, but we need to get control over this. Long story short.... that contraction didn't end til 3:45.... just as it would wind down it would pick right back up! But all in my lower uterus. Chat Icon

I didn't want the epi, but I had to wind up taking it... I couldn't deal with the pain, and I figured that it would be better off for her safety wise for me to take it so that I could feel better in turn causing her less stress. It wasn't too bad... I am a little sore from it, but whatever on that. Anyway back to the story. So, I have been in L & D now since 11 am, and around 7 pm the doctor comes in and says to me.... Lisa you aren't contracting properly. U are only contracting on the bottom - not on the top which is what I need for her to come down. U are still only 3-4 centimeters, and we cannnnn continue to do this, butttttt... we can do the C-section. The baby's head is coning, and I don't want her to not be able to tolerate this much longer.

I looked at him and said in all earnest. I am not one of those women who NEEDS to do it natural... I want you to tell me what is best for my daughter and DO IT. He says, Alright.... C section it is. She will be out within the hour. Brian comes into the room, and I tell him the news, and he starts crying. The nurse told him... It's ok, they are both healthy right now, and we are doing this so that they don't take a turn for the worse.

So, they bring him his surg dress, and start shaving me down. They bring us into the surgical ward, and get us prepped and ready to go. The OR anesthesiologist gives me something that seriously made me forget I had a lower body.... WONDERFUL after all the pain that I had been experiencing. Next thing you know I'm smelling that burning smell from them cauterizing my stomach, and I know the surgery is underway. Brian is caressing my head, and tears are streaming down his face. I asked the anesth. doc above my head.... how long b4 she is out? She looked at me and said.... give them 10 minutes. That was seriously the fastest 10 minutes of my life, and the next thing you know, I hear this beautiful sound.... My daughter..... Born at 7:52 pm.

She is out, she is crying, and she is safe. I start tearing uncontrollably.... Brian is just in awe, and crying and I said to him, just go stay with her and don't leave our daughters side while they finish with me. Next thing I know they are wheeling me back to my room, and everyone is there waiting to tell me how beautiful she is..... I was just so happy to be done with everything. Finally Brian gets back to the room, and he is just a walking smile. He comes over and gives me a big kiss and tells me how gorgeous she is.... Little did I know how right he was! So, I just sat there trying to recover, and they finally bring me to post partum where I finally got to meet her face to face, and that's when I was dumbstruck... I was in awe at her, so little all 6 lbs 2 oz and 18 inches of length. Sheer perfection.

She is a wonderful sleeper so far, and is doing well with eating. She did lose 1 ounce in the first day, but it's to be expected. My only issue right now is that my lower legs and feet are terribly swollen. Doc came in and checked me and he said it's a normal side effect that can happen to some women from the epi.

I hope you guys didn't get bored with this story... It's honestly what happened blow by blow.

We are headed home tomorrow, so as soon as we get settled, and I can get the baby down, I will upload my pictures so that you can see more of her.
