My budget party for Ryan is no longer...
Ugh, a word to the wise - for those of you trying to cut costs on parties - I recommend going for the place that does it all.
So, I was going to do White Post Farms but thought is was a bit expensive for his 2nd birthday and planned on doing it next year. BUT, they include food, cake, favors, etc.
So, I do a gym party - at the local place he does his tumble class.
Here's my run down
$250 - Gym $200 - Elmo costume I HAD to buy so Ryan could have Elmo at his party $30 - Elmo shirt I need him to wear even though he wants Cookie Monster $200 - Favors for 20 kids b/c I couldn't help myself $150 - Pizza $25 - paper goods/beverages
And now I was going to do the $20 BJ Sesame cake but I think I HAVE to have the Sesame cupcakes - there's another $75
Please help stop me. Do I need those cupcakes? I do, right?? The $20 cake is just fine - it was cute. But the cupcakes, ADORABLE. Sh!t !! Did I just drop $1K on a 2nd birthday???
White Post would have been around $650

Cupcakes are $3 each - 24 minimum. I have about 17 "eating" children. I'm sure there will be 25 adults or so. So, I can't just do 24 cupcakes. It's like 40 cupcakes, or 24 cupcakes plus a cake for adults.

Re: My budget party for Ryan is no longer...
You could have had it in Brooklyn for less... I mean sure, the favors would totally suck but the kids would have a great time!
And I see no purpose in calculating his outfit as part of the party costs. I didn't include anything outside of what Party Gym charged me... so invitations that I paid to have printed when I had free invitations didn't count, neither did the thank yous, and neither did her Elmo dress.
But I'm sure it's going to be a great party!! I promise to compliment every detail!

I wouldn't include it if he would promise to wear it again, but he doesn't like it and it's tight already They run small and I didn't realize until I didn't have enough time to return it.
BTW, I hold you responsible for the $200 cost of Elmo I incurred based on E's party. You put me over budget
Now I have to rent Elmo out to like 10 families to cover my costs

Umm, Ryan keeps his tamborine by his carseat and asks for his "instrument" on long rides - thanks for that
So are you saying I should get the cupcakes??

I would skip the cupcakes because as cute as they are most kids at that age don't eat the entire thing.

Jessee, I'm pregnant, I'm a naturally indulgent person and I'm in a miserable mood and can't drown my sorrows in alcohol so I'm doing it in sugar instead. I'm so not the person to ask about cupcakes.

Ohh I see your dilemma, so do cupcakes for kids and then cake for adults, I think that is your best bet
And I agree with Rebecca, take off the $30 shirt, it will make you feel better

That's what you get for discriminating against Ghetto Elmo.

Right, but that's $75 on kid cupcakes when the 1/2 sheet at BJs would feed the whole party for $20. The 1/4 sheet is $16 - not a huge difference

Ok, yeah, missed $75, do the 1/2 sheet cake, Stacey is right, they don't even know who is on the damn things!

Ahh, OK I think I'm convinced not to get them. But I think I'm going to try to make them then
Plus the Carvel cake I bought for Ryan's ACTUAL birthday. ...
I did this last yr. Refused to have a big 1st birthday but took him to Disney instead. Then had immediate family over and spent $500 on food, drink and decorations - umm, FL vacation and $500 on pasta - again, not budget friendly

You would have spent about the same at WPF after adding in all the extras.

Re: My budget party for Ryan is no longer...
There are two ways to look at this
a. No one is going to remember if you had cute cupcakes and a really cute cake in a few weeks so why bother.
b. you can afford it so you are doing it for you and only you because DC is too young to know the difference
If you can own b - go for it
What did you get as favors $10.00 per child? I know its really easy to get carried away with these things. I have been there done that.
In either case just enjoy the party

Re: My budget party for Ryan is no longer...
I know its hard to not get carried away - my practice fondant cake for megan's birthday has caused me to spend at least $50 on making a big one for her party - I had the bj's $20 party cake at another kids party and LOVED it -however I REALLY want to make the fondant one

Either get the cake OR make the cupcakes yourself, decorate them with the red icing and get elmo (or make) cupcake picks. Just as cute.
